Mainframe Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 i sat in the c4 coupe at the sydney motorshow, and i loved it. i love the touch sensitive boot handle too. anyway, i dont know if it was just the position i was sitting in but the clutch pedal seemed REALLY high and everytime i tried to put my foot on it my knee hit the steering wheel. im 6ft2 so yeah....i couldnt figure out how to move the steering wheel, on my car there is a lever on the steering column but i couldnt find it on the c4. anyway, i guess my question is....is anyone else around my height here? and is it an issue for you?or do you think it was just the position i was sitting in? otherwise its a hot car ;) cant say i liked the tan/beige leather interior on it, but id be getting black anyway.the panoramic roof was cool too. Ciaran2903 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 The steering wheel is adjustable, so there is no problem there. I know that there are tall people on this forum who are fine (did wozza say he was tall?!?) Quote
wozza Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Im not really tall no about 5"10 - 5"11. Im just fat lol but fit in fine. My mates 6"5 though and he has driven my C4 for a while before without problems. The lever to adjust the steering wheel on the C4 is just under and to the side of it. Will allow for rake and tilt adjustment. And i find setting the seat to the lowest level helps as well. But then again i just like to sit lower in my car. Clutch is not really that high though and on mine you barely need to push it in. Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I'm 6' 2" and its no probs. I can say it is the first car I have had where there has been plenty of leg room. Certainly alot better than the Ford Focus and Minis I have previously owned! In fact it is the only car I have been able to take my feet off the pedals and strech/move about which is handy especially on those long journeys. I'd imagine that the car you sat in had the seat raised in the highest posistion which doesnt necessarily help matters or provide a very comfortable driving posistion... Wouldnt worry to much about the clutch posistion you will get used to it, especially if you have been used to only driving a particular model of car. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Im not really tall no about 5"10 - 5"11. Im just fat lol ;) Yeah, i have the seat at its lowest position aswell. Clutch is quite high i guess, but not a problem, and as wozza says, you hardly need to push it down. Quote
Welshguy Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I'm 6"1 and no problems for me. The biting point of my clutch used to be fairly low down but recently it has "slid" - I guess wear and tear on the clutch. Still no problems in regards to hitting the steering wheel with my knees though. I have my seat fairly low down - I dont need to see the front of my car...unlike some people! ;) Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 The biting point of my clutch used to be fairly low down but recently it has "slid" This is worrying as I thought the whole point of it being self adjusting was to maintain the biting point posistion until the clutch is worn beyond its wear tollerances? At this point the clutch would then start to slip. This is at least what I have had on other cable operated clutches, unless the cable has stretched? Would have thought though this too would be self adjusted. Side note off topic -sorry- are the c4 clutches cable, cable/hydraulic? Just curious. Quote
Welshguy Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 It probably doesn't help that the only time I use the handbrake is when I park the car. Quote
wozza Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Yeah riding the clutch is a good way to quickly wear a clutch out. But hey its under warranty heh. Quote
Welshguy Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 lol Who said anything about riding the clutch?? I dont ride it !!! Quote
Stuey Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 yeah you do...your the type, big wheels and blacked out windows...boy racer!! Quote
Mat Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I've noticed a slip of my clutch the last few days. I'm getting a little concerned (In answer to OP, I have no problem with hitting knees on steering column, but I'm not that tall, about 5'10") Quote
wozza Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I have the problem of not using brakes on hills it just makes it harder to take off when i can quite easily just sit and hold the clutch on the biting point. Hey im not gonna keep the car that long why not right? lol. Quote

Hey im not gonna keep the car that long why not right? lol. Apart from when you go to pull away and the clutch has overheated and you dont go anywhere, or you do, slowly with lots of noise!!! Quote
wozza Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 What the warranty is for. But nah its fine not very often i do it anyway i time my approach to lights so i dont have to stop i just creep up to them. And i live in manchester where there are not really any hills lol. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hill starts are easy!!! What is the point it not using the handbrake, unless some people have no co-ordination........... me, suggesting anything?!? :P :P Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 I find the clutch high on my C4. Got quite worried about when I borowed my parents Toyota MR2 for a week then went back to my car. Took took a while to get used to it again. Think its just the design but works fine now, no slip or anything. Got rear ended the other day by a drunk driver when I was doing 20mph behind a couple of other cars down a small country road, luckily the rear is strong and the bumper popped straightr back out and there is only the slightest of marks where the paint has cracked. Bloke sped of with out stopping so I did the clever thing and chased him. Got his numberplate and let him go after he started jumping the traffic lights! Police are now on the case. All good fun! Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 How do you know he was drunk?!?  Or was that just an asumption? Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 well he was 50 ish, saturday afternoon, didnt stop after a minor crash, overtook three cars on a narrow road and nearly hit oncomming traffic several times, oh and misjudged his speed hence hit a moving car. plus I found out where he lives and spoke to his neighbours who say that he likes a tipple! Shame he doesnt know where I live!!!! Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 From your description, is this the culprit? http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2106/rowleybirkin2uz6.jpg Quote
