Richiejh Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Do the 2.0hdi 140 engines suffer from the same noisy crankshaft pulley issue as the early ones? I had a 2001 car which needed an new pulley as it was clattering, I think my C5 may have a similar noise which is a clatter on tickover from the bottom of the engine behind the drivers side wheel. Rookie2 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 I'm not sure if the newer models have the same pulley damper problems, however, if the pulley is a problem you can generally tell by looking at the belt as it is running. On a vehicle which has no problems the belt, when looking down the length of it, should be running smoothly. If for any reason the belt appears to be vibrating, wobbling, jumping etc, then it is a good sign that something is wrong. In fact, when all is well it is sometimes almost impossible to see that the belt is moving. I would assume that if the pulley has a rubber insert (the damper) then yes, it will eventually suffer failure and quite often this failure is caused by a knackered belt tensioner pulley which is throwing the belt out of line. Richiejh Posted December 29, 2016 Author Posted December 29, 2016 I'll check it over tomorrow, thanks. It only seems to do it when it's cold. I've had one go on an early hdi but that was ages ago now. Quote
