wozza Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 If i have to brake to a stop on a motorway i generally put my hazards on as i have seen people not realise the car was stopped and go slamming into them at 50+mph. Even though most of the time its fine i just dont fancy someone smacking into my car. I use my hazards to say thank you to people as well. Also when there police around i will warn them wish a flash of the Hazards etc. Quote
Mat Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Hazards are only to be used in the case of emergency and again identifies your car as a hazard to all other road users. On French roads, if there is a traffic jam, people always show hazards until they have stopped, then the next car hazards etc etc. In the good old days we used to do that here. Now though, if you see a car in front you assume its a traffic jam. 9/10 times it is Quote
stratos Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 There seems to be some confussion with what sytem does what, ESP does not stop you spinning the wheels, it stops you spinning the car. ASR stops you spinning the wheels. ABS - Anti-lock Braking System , just does that, stops brakes locking up. EBA - Emergency Braking Assistance - times how fast you brake, optimises braking, puts on hazard lights. ASR - Anti Skid Regulation, optimises traction, stops wheelspin ESP - Electronic Stability Programme, uses brakes individually to maintain car stability. (oversteer/understeer) The VTS 180 is the only C4 you can fully turn off ESP/ASR :o Bit supprised to hear someone driving around with ESP light regularly on, this means you are unable to control the car yourself, and the computer has to do it for you :o :D Quote

I know, because Ive tried it. The wheels spin briefly, the ESP light flashes, all power is cut and the wheels stop spinning. Quote

stratos Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 They all work using the brakes, just in a different way. They are just software systems. The ESP programme does not stop you spinning the wheels in a straight line, its the ASR programme but there is only one light, a combined ASR/ESP one. Quote
C4VTS Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Saw my ESP light for first time today after wheel spinning out of the supermarket :o I hate shopping and was in a rush to get away :o Quote
iannez Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 if the hazards are not coming on under extreme braking they ar not configured. they come on at any speed. ask dealer to activate them next service. diagnostic check is part of service (ask for check list) so tool is already connected so should not charge you. the esp works along side your traction ctrl and abs. what it does is apply a brake individually keeping the car straight. your car has a gyroscope that detects what the car is doing and checks this against the steering wheel angle sensor and as soon as the car is not pointing the same way as the steering wheel it will apply a brake to pull it straight again. the abs and tcc work the same as any other car.
