I have a 2001 picasso 1.6 8v sx with standard cd player. Every now and again I lose all control of it, both on the head unit itself and on the steering wheel.

The only way to regain control is to turn off the engine then start it again, then turn off the engine and start it again anything up to 15 times. Not only does this happen the CD player itself refuses to play CD's every now and again. I have to keep ejecting them and putting them back in once again time after time. And when it does play a CD it may just stop after about 3 songs. Oh and if its been working you can be sure as soon as you stop the engine the whole process begins. This is very random and is driving me mad!!! I even tried replacing the head unit with the one out my other car. It was perfect apart from I lost my trip computer etc. I have an Ipod which i supose i could fit but im not sure how to. I could also attach a multi changer as I need to keep the original head unit due to the trip computer. PLEASE HELP!!!

Daft Question or perhaps not...

Does this happen with a particular CD/ CD's from the same label e.g. BMG?

Some of the more recent more popular CD releases have been issued with copy protection on them and can/ has cause havoc with certain audio CD players. Not suggesting you have copied CD's, I am talking about the originals.

I have one CD released by Sony and if played on one CD player in the house will spin the CD 5 times as fast as it should and will never play nor eject.

I have heard stories of CD's with "bonus videos" copied on the CD can also cause similar problems.

Just a thought.

The other thing to check would be a loose earth lead. When the Pluriel ICE units had their earth leads removed for "safety reasons" the CD player would always start from track 1 after the engine had be turned off.
