jimbobfruitbat Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Hi, I am looking at buying a C4 1.6 HDI VTR+ EGS. I already have a 3yr old Citroen Picasso, so am familiar with their build quality and reliability. However, I have been advised that newer Citroens and Peugeots rely too much on electronic technology and gadgets which are prone to failure - do you find this to be the case, or can I expect a C4 (bear in mind it has the EGS semi-auto gearbox) to be as reliable as my Picasso (which has only ever needed a couple of lightbulbs replacing)? CoolCarbon Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I've had my VTR+ Hdi for 14 months 13000 miles and No Electrical faults... Picking up a new one in 6 days with EGS, I guess that shows how confidant I feel about the car....so far (That'll no doot be the end of the that then... ) Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Welcome to the forum I wouldnt worry to much... what electrical faults people on the forum have experienced have pretty much all been resolved by a "known dealer fix". And those faults have not been serious enough to make the car out of use, just the disablement of a function. Hope this helps Quote
jimbobfruitbat Posted November 21, 2006 Author Posted November 21, 2006 Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Would you say 14k is a reasonable target price for the VTR+ EGS Coupe, including pearlescent pain, security pack and bluetooth? (this is taking into account all the current offers from Citroen at the minute) Quote
ham's c4vts Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 ive had quit a few citroens and only had an airbag light come on on a xsara, it was down to a broke wire under the seat Quote
lee_marshuk Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 As said in another thread, Citroens can be quite hit or miss. But, I haven't had any serious *touches wood* faults with the car, electrical or otherwise. The only thing that went wrong was the cruise control, everything else has been rattles, "known fixes" or the dreaded TMC licensing issue. I think Pugs and Citroens have advanced a lot in the recent years with the quality of their electrics, if not their customer service - it all seems well put together. Hope this helps - for what its worth, I'd buy the car again! Quote
Welshguy Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 14k? Is that brand new? I would seriously consider looking for a mint second hand example of what your after as the prices drop considerably after a few months of ownership. For example recently a year old VTS with full extra's (18k brand new) and only 6k on the clock went for 9k.... Quote
Stuey Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 thats a good point welsh but there is nothing like going to the dealership and picking up a brand new car. I said I wasnt going to do it again because of depreciation and stuff but the warm feeling inside will probably draw me to buy a new car again. Slightly off topic but loosly related. I got a call from a friend yesterday who was sat in the local Audi dealership. He had just taken the RS4 for a test drive and was spec'ing his up. There are sooo many options available from the rubbish pointless ones like auto opening boot to standard C4 options like auto wipers and headlights (a £250 option I hasten to add!!) but the point is you get treated like royalty when buying new especially if you are spending £50K on a car. I have to wait until May until I can take it for a blast as all RS4's are built to order in Germany and there is a 6 month wait, but that have given him a delivery date of the 1st May 2007. Quote
Welshguy Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Yeah I loved the feeling of picking up my brand new car, particularly so because it was my first, and so different (still is!) from everything else on the road. Now that it's modified too it gets looks where ever I go too  Back on topic - forgot to mention my car does tend to give me electric shocks when I goto close the door after getting out of the car...does that count as an electrical fault? Nope...just proves the wellies you are wearing arn't just keeping your feet dry....and the nylon slacks probably dont help either   Quote

jimbobfruitbat Posted November 22, 2006 Author Posted November 22, 2006 I occasionally get a bit of static when I get of my Picasso - it's down to the nylon floor mats I bought. Consider changing your mats? As for the price, yes that's for a new one. I would consider used normally but a) I want the car now and don't want to wait and :o my girlfriend doesn't like the idea of a used car! Quote

Rich_Eason Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Well you know Welshguy.... we always thought you were a bit special... Have you got any of those jumpers with the pacthes on the arms and shoulders? They might be the cause of the static.... Quote
