haha lee you just made me happy :o i live in scotland, and its not a decent place to drive in the winter, because the roads are slippy as hell and most roundabouts are drift sites for even those not wantin 2 drift and gritters dont help one bit and theres also a tendancy for drains to spew up water and in winter its really quite terrible!

acht i suppose ye get use to it but my mates just splashed out on a set of new decent tires for his punto (tires probably cost more than the car) because he had just a random set of half arsed tires and they just wouldnt grip had to push it away from a set of lights on a hill because the car just slid on the ice whereas my citroen pulled away lovely :o

Have to admit i love winter driving. Bit of snow on the road etc i enjoy it for some reason im strange i know.

But never put me off driving anywhere whatever the conditions so far and that includes driving around fife. Will be heading back up to fife next weekend though to see family. Some nice roads round there i enjoy last time i was there drove from inverkeithing to dundee down the back roads mucho fun!

Aaaah no you see I like a nice bit of firm grip between my tyres and the tarmac, not skating on an ice rink!

So in the TV ad...why do they not show the C4 driving on ice instead of the robot?

Maybe everyone would try and copy the advert by driving like nutters on ice maybe ?

I'd have to agree with Lee...

there is no worse feeling of low speed slipping on ice, absolutly no control and that wall that didnt look as close as it now is, as you approach it sideways...we've all been there and had the warm feeling in the rear of the pants....

Was kidding about the sideways bit but driving in snow i do like as no one else is on the road!

Plus i get to go down to the local industrial estate and have a play about.

Always good to play however....

After witnessing my mate drift nearly 80meters sideways across an empty car park on frozen rain and go through a perimeter bush and embed the car into an embankment, I've always been a little bit cautious messing about on ice.

Needless to say the car wasnt very well afterwards....well it wasnt to start with as it was a Austin Maestro so probably done it a favour.

snow can be fun in certain circumstances...closed roads and car parks for a bit of J turn practice but as most other motorist's cannot control their cars in anything but dry conditions it can get hairy at times, combine that with the useless responce times from the council for the gritters to go it makes for some scary trips to work.

Having briefly worked for for a term maintainance contractor for the Highways Agency I can say that the response times are good considering the quality of information they are given.

When you consider the strategic planning of such operations to make sure you have enough materials to get you through the cold snap you cant just go throwing salt about willy nilly.

Also when you have drivers ploughing snow off the middle lane of the M5 and gritting behind and yet people are overtaking and pulling into fresh snow I think these guys deserve all the respect they can get.

up near Edinburgh airport theres a large (and i mean large) area of tarmac'd suface, its a good 2 miles square, its brilliant for practicing J turns etc on its also quite good to test car top speed

That'll be the runway then wouldnt it?

hahaha na its not actually it gets pretty darn close to the runway but it aint the runway its a big car park because theres festival grounds next to it, but theres never really anything on and i think its also used in a time of war because the run way has a tarmac slip up 2 it but ive never seen it used

I got to test the car's brakes this morning in wet conditions - a van pulled out of a junction across my path, and must have thought I was going to stop and let him out...slammed on the brakes - they work very well !!!

Had a similar thing lastnight although I nearly ended up going up the back of some prat....

Two idiots chatting away in a "Maxed" out Saxo not watching what they are doing.

They are sat at the front of the queue sat at traffic lights. As they pull away from the lights - clear road ahead- they realise that their mate is about three cars back, two rows of traffic over to the left, so slam on the brakes to stop dead in the middle of the road and wave at them as they went round the adjacent junction, they then pulled off again, not realising that I'd nearly gone into the back of them and the woman behind me had nearly gone into the back of me. and caused total confusion with the adjacent lane as well...

I did note that the horn button is certainly difficult to hit quickly in these situations as i ended up hiting the airbag... :D

Yep numerous times i have smacked the chevrons. Then because the horn has not gone off i usually end up with the next 10 words leaving my mouth all words the forum would say OOPS to.
