I was just going out today,

I put my key in the Ignition lock and went to start the engine, when turning the key the metal part was left in the lock but the fob had come apart and was on the floor mat in bits looks like it is broken inside is this a first? I had to use the spare key.

Mine does not click in properly no more either and hangs out and comes out on its own occasionally.

But it should not have just fallen apart like that. Id speak to the dealers about it and just argue with them to replace it if they say its miss use.

Remember when i picked my car up the guy said to me to be careful with them as they were bloody expensive to replace. When he said expensive i was thinking £50 or so. I then asked how much to be told something like £136 and £60+ for the normal key.

The key hangs out because you probably havent been using it properly.

The way it is made up inside is not particularly great. Its all plastic and the retaining parts that keep the key in place, wear if the button is not pushed everytime the key is folded.

Mine flops about to and im guilty of not using the button when folding it away.

But looking at it, it can not happen if the button is used everytime, and it does state this in the owners handbook.

Arhh...didn't know you had to press the button when folding the key away - probably explain's why my key has gone a bit "limp" *snigger*...

I cant push my key in, without holding the button

Aww Mat you need to eat your Greens!

I've pushed hard, and just managed it :P . Shall still use the button though

Went to my local dealer with the key today, they looked at it and said it could not come apart like it has unless it had been damaged and that it would not be covered under a normal warranty claim. Well I certainly have not damaged it as part of the moulding has broken inside, and I always press the button in when folding it . They are going to speak to Citroen to see if they will replace it as a goodwill gesture. If they dont my daughter will be disappointed as she will not be getting her C1 in the new year. I will keep you informed.

Am religious about pushing the button in, but mine still knackered (it sort of hangs part way out) (the key that is before you get any ideas), have taken a vw one apart and a had a look at the citroen fob, one of my collegues has broken his, the quality of the internals on the vw fob was far better quality and more durable than the Citroens.

Shame because a couple of metal parts and it would have lasted a lot longer at little extra cost.

At nearly a 100 quid a piece an extra 10ers worth of quality makes no odds to the cost....

Bit of a different story if it was £3.50 + VAT

if you open the plip up you can retension the spring. there is a cross at the bottom of the pin that locates into the plip housing. lift it up turn it 360 degrees clockwise to tension spring and push it back into the locator. need to add its a bit of a nightmare to keep the tension and try to locate the cross at the same time so remember that bouncing it of the wall will only make matters worse.
