Rob555 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I was just going out today,I put my key in the Ignition lock and went to start the engine, when turning the key the metal part was left in the lock but the fob had come apart and was on the floor mat in bits looks like it is broken inside is this a first? I had to use the spare key. Quote
philstott1983 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 It's a first for me hearing about that, and them bad boys arnt cheap to get a new one Quote
lee_marshuk Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Yer over a hundred quid each, and not sure you could convince them that that was a fault - bet your dealer will see it as mis-use! Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 They are the cheapest keyfobs I have ever seen. The spring is buggered on mine so the key hangs out. Compare a C4 fob to an Audi fob for instance and you'll see what I mean. Quote
C4VTS Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 The keys look very well made to me, and no different to my old Audi Key, so can't see how it would just fall apart. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I'll post a pic of mine later. The C4 keyfob is light and flimsy in comparison to every other manufacturer including the Vauxhall Astra. Quote
wozza Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Mine does not click in properly no more either and hangs out and comes out on its own occasionally. But it should not have just fallen apart like that. Id speak to the dealers about it and just argue with them to replace it if they say its miss use. Remember when i picked my car up the guy said to me to be careful with them as they were bloody expensive to replace. When he said expensive i was thinking £50 or so. I then asked how much to be told something like £136 and £60+ for the normal key. Quote
Mat Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 My gf's VW Beetle keyfob is much more solid than my C4's. AND she got 2! Quote
iannez Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 we've changed a few under warrenty. if theres no impact marks you should not have a problem with warrenty. Quote
Mike5483 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 The key hangs out because you probably havent been using it properly. The way it is made up inside is not particularly great. Its all plastic and the retaining parts that keep the key in place, wear if the button is not pushed everytime the key is folded. Mine flops about to and im guilty of not using the button when folding it away. But looking at it, it can not happen if the button is used everytime, and it does state this in the owners handbook. Welshguy Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Mine flops about to and im guilty of not using the button when folding it away. Arhh...didn't know you had to press the button when folding the key away - probably explain's why my key has gone a bit "limp" *snigger*... Quote
Mat Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I cant push my key in, without holding the button  Quote
Welshguy Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I cant push my key in, without holding the button Aww Mat you need to eat your Greens! Quote
philstott1983 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 The sales rep at my dealer said the button didn't need to be pressed when putting the key back, sounds like i will be pressing it from now on tho! Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Always press the button when pushing the key back into the fob, mine still came loose. Citroen refused to replace under warranty. Quote
lab44 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Mines done that as well. I usually just push it in (only use the button to get it out). Not really too much of a problem though. Quote
Mat Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I cant push my key in, without holding the button Aww Mat you need to eat your Greens! I've pushed hard, and just managed it :P . Shall still use the button though Quote
Rob555 Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 Went to my local dealer with the key today, they looked at it and said it could not come apart like it has unless it had been damaged and that it would not be covered under a normal warranty claim. Well I certainly have not damaged it as part of the moulding has broken inside, and I always press the button in when folding it . They are going to speak to Citroen to see if they will replace it as a goodwill gesture. If they dont my daughter will be disappointed as she will not be getting her C1 in the new year. I will keep you informed. Quote
Safety Engineer Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Am religious about pushing the button in, but mine still knackered (it sort of hangs part way out) (the key that is before you get any ideas), have taken a vw one apart and a had a look at the citroen fob, one of my collegues has broken his, the quality of the internals on the vw fob was far better quality and more durable than the Citroens. Shame because a couple of metal parts and it would have lasted a lot longer at little extra cost. Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Shame because a couple of metal parts and it would have lasted a lot longer at little extra cost. At nearly a 100 quid a piece an extra 10ers worth of quality makes no odds to the cost.... Bit of a different story if it was £3.50 + VAT Quote
iannez Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 if you open the plip up you can retension the spring. there is a cross at the bottom of the pin that locates into the plip housing. lift it up turn it 360 degrees clockwise to tension spring and push it back into the locator. need to add its a bit of a nightmare to keep the tension and try to locate the cross at the same time so remember that bouncing it of the wall will only make matters worse. Ciaran2903 Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Ironically i just stuffed my key!! <_< :( Only opens half way, i have to pull it the rest of the way!!! Quote
