andya99 Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Hi, I know I've not posted for a while :o but have had my C4 VTR+ coupe since July 06 (from new), had its 1500 mile check at dealers no probs and has done about 5500 miles, everything running fine. However the other day was reversing uphill into a parking space and was getting noise from the rear brakes when using the handbrake? I recall this has been spoken about in the forums before but not sure? Is there anything I need to be worried about :( Any info much appreciated. :D Andy Quote
Rich_Eason Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Hi Andy Rear brake calipers are prone to making a lot of noise and believe*clarification required* there is a dealer fix. I think they replace the rear calipers. If however you are talking about a noise from the dashboard, if you apply the handbrake whilst the wheels are in motion you will get a warning beep similar to the SERVICE Indication and "HANDBRAKE APPLIED" on the screen. Hope this helps Quote
wozza Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Yup new calipers and pads on the rear for the brakes squealing. Quote
Welshguy Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I would say that the change of brakes doesn't *always* fix the problem, but hey, it's new brakes that you wont have to pay for so you might as well get it done! :( Quote
wozza Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 It stops the really bad squeal that gets people looking at you from half way down the street though. All disc brakes will squeal a little though just the way they are performance ones are worse until they have got up to temp usually. Quote
andya99 Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Hi, Thanks for all the assitance and advice, has not occured again since posting but will keep and eye on it, will see what my dealer can do if needs be. Cheers Andy Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Surely they won't keep on replacing the brakes for ever more? Mine have been replaced and now they are even noisier than before. Quote
wozza Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 When you got them replaced did you have the calipers etc replaced? Or just disks? As mine which were very noisy after around 1500miles have been fine now for the last 7000+ miles. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Had the discs replaced as I had warped them along with calipers and pads. They started squealing shortly after replacement and now they make a racket, braking from any speed with any amount of pedal pressure. Quote
wozza Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Well its going for a service soon yours isn't it? Just tell them then sure it will get sorted for free as it should not be making a noise. As I said mine has not developed any new noises. But its going into the dealers in a week or so for a couple days to find out why it keeps messing up and going into limp home. Also think somethings a bit iffy with my clutch as its juddering like crazy recently. Possibly a connection with it but I have no idea. But on the plus side its taken over a year for it to develop a fault and its likely its just going to be a sensor or something and well that can happen on any car. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 1,200 miles and counting til the next service. Not sure where to take it though as the 6 dealers within a 100mile radius are crap Quote
