jonfish Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Does anyone with the 1.6HDI 110 engine consider the engine cooling fan to be excessively noisy ? When it cuts in, mine seems much louder than any car I've previously known. That's from inside the car. When stood outside it's ridiculous. I've had people comment and seen pesdestrians turn to look. It doesn't sound broken or mechanically on the verge of self destruction just loud. Been the same as long as I can remember. Mentioned to dealer at 12500mile service but they didn't say anything when the car was returned to me. Is it just me ? Quote
citroeneddie Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 The fan is noisy on my C5 1.6 Hdi, but you just get used to it. Quote
Rich_Eason Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 The fan on mine is quite loud (loud wurry noise) and wouldnt worry to much. If it is on all the time then it needs to be looked at as that might be a dodgy switch/sensor. Quote
wozza Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I have never heard my cooling fan on mine. Although my engine is different to your guys again being the petrol 1.6 Quote
Rich_Eason Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 The only time it has really ever comes on is during the summer in queues of traffic and reversing the car into the garage... Quote
hertsnminds Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Not noticed lots of noise from the engine fan on my 5dr 1.6 110 HDi. The internal heater fan has become noisy for the 1st 5 mins after starting the car but becomes silent after that. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
Mike5483 Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Surprised you can hear the fan over all that Tractor style chuggage!!! Quote
C4VTS Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 The cooling fan on my Audi A4 used to be very loud when it kicked in on a hot summers day, but I got used to it. Quote
jonfish Posted December 2, 2006 Author Posted December 2, 2006 Mmm. It's happens a lot in slow moving traffic which I suppose makes sense. I used to dread it in the summer when other cars had their windows open! Still it's better than a lot of that noise the youffs are in to  But it still happens now - OK probably the warmest November on record. Often happens when I'm parking up. I tend to let the engine tick over for a few seconds as I take my belt off etc. before shutting off and the fan will start up. The noise makes me cringe especially if it's late at night in case it wakes the neighbours! Sounds like I'll just have to get used to it, though they don't all seem to be as bad from these posts. Rich_Eason Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I wouldnt worry to much Jon. As you say I leave min ticking over when I get out to open up the garage and usually starts the fan going then... Quote
