The steering vibration at 65 to 80MPH was caused by incorrect wheel balancing, and said that one weight was fitted in wrong place and another was missing even though I just had it done recently. They said to me if it is still not right they will not charge me for the balancing, so I will test it out over the weekend.

 

I have now tested my car on the motorway and the steering vibration has now gone, so it seems my local Citroen dealer do know what they are doing.

 

The 17” Resolfen wheels must be tricky for some tyre dealers to put the weights in the right place, so either leave them off completely or fit in wrong position on the wheel.

Cant see that myself, they normally stick on or attach to the rear side of rim.

 

Perhaps the adesive on the stick on weights isnt good enough or they arnt cleaning the rim before applying balance weights, making the detatch from the rim.

 

Or the tyre fitter isnt balancing wheel correctly, balance m/c is out of or requires calibration.

I have heard that, ideally, both the inside and outside should have weights.

 

Dont know if this is true, but I read somewhere, that a wheel effectively consists of two parts, the face (outside) and the inner and both parts should be balanced.

 

The face doesn't normally get done for asthetic reasons.

Yes, its actually two balance planes, and its normall eaisyer to add a stick on weight than a clip on weight

Alloy wheels should only have stick on weights fitted, as the clip on types damage the rims and cause corrosion.
