WVN Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Hi all, does anyone know how come the rain sensors are always deactivated? Every time i activate the sensors but again next day are deactivated. Thanxs a lot wvn Quote
Mike5483 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 You have to set them everytime you get in by pushing the wiper stalk down. I know in some cars the auto wipers have an on/off switch, but the C4 is done in software I think. Not a massive problem. Quote
C4VTS Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Why would anyone want to have the wipers permanently on auto? I don't think you would want the wipers operating if for example they are frozen to the windscreen in the morning. Wipers are only really needed when it is raining. Quote

Isnt the point of making them automatic making them automatic ? Quote
Mike5483 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Yeah, but as he says, on a icy day, the wipers are going to want to wipe, whilst stuck to the screen. Anyway, they are automatic once you have activated them. Quote

The car does not drive away as soon as you sit in the drivers seat. :P Same principle really. The wipers are auto when you enable them in the rain. :P The gearbox is auto when you need to drive. :P Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Yeah, my wipers are auto too, its called my hand! From what i have heard, it does not seem i am missing out on the auto wipers Quote
Mike5483 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Yeah, my wipers are auto too, its called my hand! From what i have heard, it does not seem i am missing out on the auto wipers Knowing what I do about them and having used them, it certainly wouldnt boter me too much if I didnt have them. Although, I would want some variable spees wipers, rather then just 'Intermittant', 'Slow' and 'A Bit Faster'!!! Quote
WVN Posted December 3, 2006 Author Posted December 3, 2006 Wow, i think i got my answers. Thanx a lot people. yeap, if an icy day the wipers went on then it would be a problem. Variable speed is the really cool think. But, to activate auto wipers you need to push stalk down a step. That alone can make windows dirty(no water i mean). So, any way to activate without the wiper wiping? Quote
Mike5483 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Dont think so. I know what you mean, I think thats a bit of a design flaw!!! Also, I find that you have to give the windows a quick squirt, otherwise the mess on the window just smears across the sensor and the wipers go mental!!! Quote
C4VTS Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Also would have been better if it was push down to enable and the same to disable the auto wipers. Quote
wozza Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Prefer the wipers in my mums car. Push down is 1 wipe. push up is auto. then you have the 3 steps and the variable speed thing as well. And the fast setting is actually fast not slightly quicker than slow. My only real complaint with the C4 wipers is there not fast enough in bad rain which we get a lot of here in Manchester i have to slow down a lot to be able to see. been on the motorway before doing 40 cause the wipers could not wipe fast enough. Quote
C4VTS Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 so really you should slow down if its that bad. Slowing down does not make the rain go away, it just gives your brain more time to concentrate on your field of vision. But yes, you should be driving slower in the rain particularly on fast roads such as motorways, to avoid aquaplaning! Well that basically what ive put in my post!i never said that the rain went away, i said braking distances will increase and visibillity is reduced when it rains hard. therefore you slow down if you cant see. you wouldnt speed on a motorway in bad fog would you? Safety Engineer Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 And don't forget, increase your gap, the 2 second rule equals 4 seconds in the wet and 10 seconds in snow and ice !!! Quote
wozza Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Yes i know all this and yes i keep to it but the spray from a passing lorry totally leaving me blind cause the wipers cant keep up usually means they need to go a bit faster. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 i wouldnt think that they would physicaly go any faster on any car though. Quote
Mat Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 And don't forget, increase your gap, the 2 second rule equals 4 seconds in the wet and 10 seconds in snow and ice !!! And put your rear fog lights on so people can see you through the spray ;) Quote
wozza Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 You still should not use fog lights in bad spray it causes refraction of the lights thus blinding people behind you even more. Same when its wet and you see people wit front fogs on it reflects up off the ground as well. Pisses me off no end when i see people put fogs on when its wet. They get treated to full beams. Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 My brothers Auto Wipers on his C3 are the same as the C4 where as in my C3 you press the talk up once and auto wiprs is activated. Quote
Rich_Eason Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 What I want to know is... is there anyone on this forum following the recommendation of the C4 owners manual and changing your wiper blades at least twice a year?! ;) At 40 squids a stab (clarification required - think this was discussed on another thread) I think I'd need a wallet the size of Birmingham to keep up with wiper blade maintainance alone. :( Safety Point No. 132Dont forget your screen wash chaps/chapesses not only does it help remove road toss from your windscreen and keep them clear it also prevents your water bottles from freezing. Dont want to see any threads along the lines of "Leaky Washer Bottle" or "Changing washer bottle" ...Winter is comming. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 And a good coating of Rainx or similar product(had to get that in Wozza ;) :( ) Quote
wozza Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 lol. i swear your getting paid by them. Not put any on last few times i have done my car as its got too dark and cold could not be bothered with the rainx then. Quote
