bronkone7 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 My wifes little reliable K reg. AX has the brake drum seized on rear nearside wheel, not sure why but i'm guessing shoes have become welded to it.Problem is now removing it,i've tried whacking edges of drum with club hammer but to no avail,i've loosened off handbrake cable as far as it will go,but drum will still not turn.Does drum come off without removing bearings or should i take castle nut etc.off.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanksBrian Quote
iannez Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 sounds like one of the liners has come off and wedged against the inside of the drum. you will need a puller to remove it. the drums have a couple of 30 torx grub screws to remove it (i think) so no need to remove castle nut. Quote
bronkone7 Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Thanks for that,Will have another go tomorrow.Brian Quote
bronkone7 Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 Spot on Iannez.Got drum off today, found liner off as predicted, also slight leak on cylinder.Just one more question, are the shoes as easy to do as they are on most cars or is there anything special i need? Many thanks for your help.Brian Quote
iannez Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 take photo with camera phone so you know where springs go when you fit it back up. you will need to use old handbrake arm as you dont get it with the shoe kit so take care removing the clip/washer as you will need to re-use it. i use a deep 10mm socket to slide it down onto new shoe.
