lesmotor Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Hi, everybody I'm a newbie to this forum, can anybody tell me if it's possible to see the average MPG readout on the dash? I don't have the hand book for the car!All i can see is the real time MPG readout which displays anything from 0 to 999 depending on how your driving. Incidentally I've got the 2.0L HDI VTR+ in Icelandic Grey or Blue, depends on how you look at it. Bought it as repairable salvage a couple of months ago and just finished repairing it. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 hi and welcome to the forum lesmotor  you can check the trip computer by pressing the button on the end of the wiper stalk :o Quote
syrup Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 If you push the end of the right hand stalk (washer control) it toggles through the three displays shown on your screen The first one is a symbol of a car showing mileage available on fuel left, average miles per gallon and distance to destination if set. Next is 1 showing mileage done since reset- average mpg - average speed. Most people use this between fill ups. You reset this by depressing and holding in the end of the stalk while on this setting. Next is 2 the same as above, I have not touched this since getting my car, so it shows me mileage done - average mpg and average speed since new. Again this can be reset in the same manner. I hope this helps Keith Quote
lesmotor Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks guy's Great help I've been pushing every button on the steering wheel to get the cursor to move, never thought of using the stalks. I'll have go in the morning on the way to work! Quote
LeoTheHamster Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Don't worry, you're not the only person to miss those buttons  Quote

Guest CE05LDB Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Its worth reseting it when filling up. I do on my C3. Its more acurate then. Quote

Rich_Eason Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I resest mine lastnight upon filling up and what was more worrying in the mile from reseting it to getting home I had traveled at an average speed of 12mph, covered 1 mile and was using fuel at the rate of 16.3mpg! :( I then pulled up outside my garage stopped and noticed that the trip computer droped to 16.1mpg, I then left it idling to open the door got back in and was then reading 15.7mpg! With a full tank again its now predicting a range of 323miles...yet with half a tank it said I could do 275miles? <_< So this got me thinking. Over the past month I have been wondering if perhaps my C4 has been using excessive amounts of fuel...or is the trip computer so inaccurate its not worth the salt? What got me confused more is that in "Instant Read Out Mode" it doesnt start calculating fuel consumption above a certain MPH, yet lastnight when I was watching the MPG drop in Mode 1 it was droping the MPG whilst stationary :o Yours Confused of Bristol. Ciaran2903 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 If you are not moving, but the engine is on, you are going to use fuel (obviously <_< ) but, because the car is not moving, you are getting 0MPG. There seems to be no point in this reading out on the diplay, because you are actually using a small amount of fuel. Quote

There seems to be no point in this reading out on the diplay, because you are actually using a small amount of fuel. Obvioulsy, but I think it is flawed. Why does it not calculate MPG on the "Instant Read Out" above a certain MPH - because I am not moving. <_< So why on Setting 1, does it caluclate my MPG when I am not moving?! I am surly doing 0MPG as well? :o I understand I am still burning fuel but that would effect the range on the tank and not the MPG? Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Not really following you!?! That may be down to the fact that i am at home ill <_< Wait, are you saying that your MPG readings stop over a certain speed?!?If you are, i dont know, i have never gone that fast and cheacked the MPG readings. Rich_Eason Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Not really following you!?! That may be down to the fact that i am at home ill :o Wait, are you saying that your MPG readings stop over a certain speed?!?If you are, i dont know, i have never gone that fast and cheacked the MPG readings. No its me and my local yocal ramblings.... Why does it not calculate MPG on the "Instant Read Out" above a certain MPH - because I am not moving. Was supposed to read "Instant Read Out" shows no MPG readout unless i travel above a specific speed" Hope that clears things up a bit <_< Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Yeah that is what i thought. Because it is an average, they have to include the 0MPG readings. Therefore putting the MPG reading down. OK, i think i just got ya! :o Are you asking why it does not read 0MPG when stationary?!? <_< Dont see why, other than the fact that it is a horrible piece of information to use, of course you are getting 0MPG! I see where you are coming from, it seems silly not to display the reading. Quote
hertsnminds Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 You don't get an instant MPG figure until you are travelling over 20mph and this can be anything up to 999 MPG rolling downhill in 5th or even just breaking as this is zero throttle i.e. no fuel going into the engine. This display shows 3 things, distance until the tank is empty, instant MPG and miles to go until destination reached. You set the distance to destination at the start of your journey using the menu button. The 2 other trip computers show miles travelled (since reset by you), average MPG and average MPH over those miles. They have a max range of based on kilometers so after the distance travelled fills with 9's (9999 in KM) they will not go up any more, it's about 6213 miles. The average MPG on the 2 trip computers is calculated from the last few miles travelled. So if your last 20 miles were spent in town your MPG will go down but if they were spent at around 60MPH in 5th they should go up. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
