xt500cc Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I wonder Does anyone have the 1.6 VTR+ Diesel with a similar problem? When the car is in 5th gear you can actually move the stick to the right and get it back almost to the neutral position, and back again, i noticed this just by chance as i held the lever. I recently had some clutch work done so i don't really know if this is normal or not as i hadn't had the car long before the work was carried out. The gearbox is nice and smooth and is pleasant enough to use, it's just a bit of a worry if this issue isn't normal. By the ay there is no force in this action it really does just move very easily out of position, no feeling of gears shifting or anything Si Wils Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I have noticed recently that i can take the car out of gear when moving! :o When you lift off the accelerator, you can get the gears into nuetral! :D Quote
welshys90 Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 ive noticed when i put mines into fifth it basically falls into line of where the 3rd gear sits if you get what i mean Quote
wozza Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I have noticed recently that i can take the car out of gear when moving! :o When you lift off the accelerator, you can get the gears into nuetral! <_< :( Thats normal happened on pretty much every car i have driven. Same as you can put it in gear without using the clutch if you match the revs correctly. Not something to do often though. Quote

Mike5483 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 My car does this when in 5th... You put it into fifth by pushing all the way over to the right and then forward. It then moves back to the left, looking as if its in 3rd, as already stated. Then, if you move it back to the right and pull it out of gear, the gear doesn't actually disengauge, the stick just floats around somewhere between 5th, neutal and reverse. If you put it back into 5th, and then just pull it out with out moving the stick right, it comes out normally and back to neutral. Its a very strange 'box, the one in the C1 I had was miles better!!! Rich_Eason Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I agree it is a sloppy box compared to the Focus box I was used to before. That was probably the best box I've used. Nice and positive, clean no clunky mechanical feeling other than a nice weight until the centering spring broke...which was a frequent occurance. I'm used to sloppy boxes ( <_< ) I've put up with them in Minis before which is like stiring a pudding. Quote
lab44 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I've always driven French cars so havent really noticed the sloppy feeling box. Until the other day I drove a Seat Leon - was much better, very slick and positive feeling. Actually I thought the whole car was pretty impressive  Quote
wozza Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Focus gear change is lovely it just clicks into gears. By comparison the C4 is very sloppy and i still find myself missing the odd change now just isnt the greatest gearbox around. But most french cars are the same. Gearboxes generally tend to be naff.
