C4VTS Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Is it worth pursuing a rattling noise on my C4 from nearside front. I have had new front shocks fitted by my local dealer but the noise is still there. Is the dealer just going to fob me off and say they can't fix it? Should I go back to the Citroen dealer that sold me the car? Should I just live with the rattles as a C4 characteristic? Quote
lab44 Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Mine seems to be developing numerous rattles - now have one on the drivers window - seems to be around the window sealing. One very annoying one on the passenger door and today noticed an intermittent rattle from somewhere in the steering wheel. Dont usually notice since I have my music up but is really annoying when its not on. Am saving them all up to book in after christmas and ask them to de-rattle it for me  I dont know whether this is the cause of the problem but sometimes bumps seem to send shockwaves through the entire car - not surprised bits are starting to rattle. Strange thing is seems to be the smaller bumps that are the worst - goes over speedhumps lovely. Quote
C4VTS Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Strange thing is seems to be the smaller bumps that are the worst - goes over speedhumps lovely. Agreed, same here- It's all the potholes that cause the rattles. Driving over a speedhump shows nothing. Quote
Welshguy Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Should I go back to the Citroen dealer that sold me the car? Should I just live with the rattles as a C4 characteristic? Yes...take the car back to the dealership! I dont think you should EVER have to live with something you can fix - its Citroen's fault! It may cost you time and is inconveinent to fix, but you'll feel better once it's fixed! Quote
Stuey Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 welsh is right, get it all sorted. I have noticed my car banging and crashing over bumps more since I ave put these new wheels on, I can definatly tell the difference between the 16" wheels with normal tyres and the 17's with lower profiles on. Maybe the bigger wheels are causing more wear and tear on the car?? Quote
wozza Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Noticed a difference in acceleration or handling? Not just ride quality. Quote
Stuey Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 handling is a lot better, much less understeer and it feels more posistive. Bizzarly accelaration feels a bit slower but it wheel spins more now. I still think the tyres are blown up to much. Quote
Rich_Eason Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 and today noticed an intermittent rattle from somewhere in the steering wheel. Have you opened up the bonnet and looked up under/behind the scuttle panel by the driver side wiper? I have a sound proofing panel here where the clips have given up and causes the panel to drop and rattle on the vibration of the engine. Could be worth a look. Quote
Rob555 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Mike5483 and C4VTS As reported before I have had a knocking noise / rattle from the n/s/f and have also had new front shocks fitted. It seemed to cure it for a while but the noise came back. I had to return to the dealer regarding another matter and I asked them if they could have another look the car to investigate the noise. They were kind enough to loan me a C3 at short notice until my car was returned. Well so far so good I have not heard the noise again but it is early days as I have only been out in the car twice since it came back. I will let you know after Christmas if its still o/k and what parts were replaced if it proves successful. Quote

Its most likely to be the colder damp weather we are having now. Quote
wozza Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 colder damper weather results in increased acceleration if anything. Due to denser cooler air being taken into the engine thus more power. 16" versus 17" even though theres very little difference diameter wise. There is difference weight wise. 17's are heavier thus takes more force to turn them. resulting in lower acceleration. Why drag cars generally use smaller wheels. Quote

The cooler damper air wont be a significant increase, especially on a 1.4, and you'd possibly notice it only on equipment, Quote
ham's c4vts Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 PS we've done it again ...... gone off topic :) :P Quote
wozza Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Lol yeah we have gone off topic but think everyone was in agreement get it sorted. And the roads are damp but not that bad can still launch my car at 3000rpm without it spinning the wheels. And the cooler conditions are noticeable for me. Car just does not have the same in gear pull when its warm. Quote
