This has been discussed on here before, but cant find the topic, hope you lot don't mind a repeat of it. Hopefully somebody can provide me with an answer.......

I purchased the 9706.AG lead to connect into the aux. socket on the back of the factory fitted stereo, with the opposite end having the 3.5mm audio jack to plug into my iPod.

Today i've taken the car into the dealer to get the aux. input enabled, but when i've got home and tried it (i did take my iPod to try there and then but the battery had gone flat because i left it on!) it doesnt work.

I've pressed the source button to get to the source of input 1, but no sound is played. Presumably, they have enabled aux 1 with the screen saying audio one.....

Have the guys at Citroen enabled the right aux input? Or, if this is unknown, what aux input needs enabling so i can double check if they have done the right one. Just want to see that they have got there part right before thinking the lead itself is stuffed.

Personally i'd of presumed this lead would use aux. 2, with aux. 1 being assigned to the disc changed if fitted, but i may be wrong. Please help because i'm sick of having loads of cd's fall out my glove box when i open it!

You need to rewire the lead by removing the small pins at the radio end plug and moving them to new pin locations.

Ill bet its wired like this...

7 - Red

1 - White

2 - Black

But it should be like this...

11 - Black

10 - Red

4 - White

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, now I have my i-pod working in my car!!!!

Surely one could be forgiven though for wiring the connector as the instructions said, as oppose to how it actually works!?!?!

Not to worry, sorted now.

Not sure why the instructions are wrong. I assume it could be for one or several reasons, the instructions are written for a Peugeot, the instructions are written for Aux 1, but it seems Aux 1 is dedicated to a changer in the C4.

I've just bought my C4 and had asked the dealer to install the said cable for connection to a Creative Zen Vision M mp3 player - it works perfectly.

Bit late now as I can see you now have it working, but a note for others doing the same thing: I needed to turn up the volume on my mp3 player nearly all the way to max before I could hear it via the car stereo.

What you will find, is that if you change the headphone jack to Line Out insead, you will get a much better sound and you will not have to turn up the volume control.

But may find you blow your ears if you use headphones without reversing the change

Is changing the headphone jack to Line Out something which is done with the connections behind the head unit, or is it part of the dealer's computer controlled settings on the unit?

Sounds like a good idea, as I'd rather not have to turn up the volume on both stereo and mp3 player (makes for a rather nasty shock when I change it back to radio or CD!)

On my Sony NWA1000 i have the option to set it to Lineout or Headphones. If i set it to Headphones it is very quiet in the car and i have to turn the stereo up to about 20, which really hurts if i forget and go back to radio or CD. Setting it to lineout sorts this, but i have the same problem if i forget and plug in my earphones.

At some point i intend to make an amplifier or antennutor to fix this - the list of things to do far exceeds time i have. I need to retire - shame i'm 40+ years away

Lol not sure if the creative players can be switched to line out or not never tried. I could if i had the cable to put it into my Alpine HU though but well its more money lol.

Just a quick question on this topic.....

On using this ipod lead that puts a 3.5mm audio jack into the aux in, the only connections that have been used are audio left, audio right and a ground..... just three. But on the aux in on the stereo, there are 12 pins.

What are the other 12 pins for?

Further to what are the 12 pins for, although being grateful for having iPod in my car, is there not a lead out there that can connect to the ipod (its comms socket at the bottom), and connect to the aux in, and will relate the track info to the screen?

If a disc changer could relay the track details of artist etc of an mp3 disc to the stereos screen, could this not be done for an ipod?

Just to clarify, do I get this 9706AG cable from Citroen or Peugeot parts dept??

Thanks...

Either. I got mine from my local Citroen dealer for £23

The part 9706AG can be obtained from either, they both use the same part number so whichever offers the cheaper lead. However, i got mine from ebay, was lucky enough to find it on there for about £6/£7, whilst my local dealers wanted approx £20

There is only 1 aux port on the C4's head unit - the one that the cd changer connects to is a dedicated CD changer port. This is why when you have the port enabled, there is only the option for aux 1. I have had to disconnect my factory fit bluetooth in order to use the aux port for my ipod, as they both need aux 1. I have attempted to fit the aux cable to the cd changer port and it simply doesn't work.

To use line out from the ipod, as opposed to the headphone out, you need to get a cable that connects to the dock connector on the base of the ipod as the line out signal is transmitted through there - you can get a cable like this from Amazon - This one would do nicely, and plugs into the 9706AG lead.

The only problem with this is that you can't then charge your ipod - I have just bought this and, although it says for Ford, BMW & Saab, the aux input looks correct, so I believe should work with the RD4 head unit, and if the power connections are connected ok, then this should provide charge to the ipod whilst accessing the line out as well - it also provides a nice tidy dock without having to plug different leads in every time is gets connected!

In answer to the question about displaying track names from the ipod to the head unit, this is generally only possible where the ipod is connected to a cd changer input - at present I am not aware that anything is available for the cd changer input on the C4's head unit, although this may change in time.

I am due to have a post-factory fit bluetooth system installed by the dealer on the Citroen stereo. I already have the 9706AG attached and working for an mp3 player - does this mean that the bluetooth kit may not potentially be able to be attached, or will I have to sacrifice the 9706AG connection?

If you dont have parking sensors fitted. And you want bluetooth / Ipod connectivity I would suggest going for an after market head unit. Will be the best choice in terms of sound quality and having it all integrated in 1 package with minimal outlay in cash.

Please let us know if this works... I would be interested in something like this - it seems to take me ages when I get in the car to plug everything in. Sat Nav, sat nav charger, ipod headphones out, ipod charger

This would reduce things quite a lot!

How does it plug into the 9706AG? Don't they both have male stereo ends?

The 9706AG is in 2 parts - the part that connects to the back of the head unit has a female connector; the other part is just a standard 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack cable, so you dispense with that and use the ziplinq cable instead.

BUT....

Now having tried the icelink lite thing, the line out from the ipod is at much too low a level for the RD4 and even with the head unit at full volume, its just too quiet, so I will be sticking with the headphone out on mine. It may be different on a different MP3 player though - but then the icelink is not suitable anyway as its ipod only.

doh - I was looking forward to hearing that working...
