jimbobfruitbat Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I've got a Dell Axim PDA with TomTom installed plus a Bluetooth receiver, which I use in my Picasso for Satnav. I also need to use it in my new C4, but due to the fragility of the mount (which is a suction cup stuck to the windscreen with some blue-tack on the dashboard to hold it still) I can't transfer it to the C4. I therefore need to buy another PDA mount to stick in the C4. Now, I know these things tend to be fragile, and of varying quality, so I am looking to get something cheap via the web. So, I'm wondering if anyone else out there has done the same in a C4, and can recommend one. Even if I weren't to buy the same mount, it would be really useful to know what size or style people get (e.g. suction cup on the windscreen, how long the arm needs to be or do I just go with one of those on the air-vents - never too sure about them as I think they could overheat the PDA!). This is the kind of thing I am looking for (apologies for the link which will no doubt expire soon after the item goes!): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UNIVERSAL-CAR-PDA-MO...7QQcmdZViewItem Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 In my experience, by far the best are the Brodit clamps. They are all tested on cars specifically, have good build quality and look the part - as an added bonus they rarely if ever require any drilling since they are are so specific to the vehicle they fit snugly - problem is, they come with a heck of a premium price tag, so it probably won't be much use to you since you're after a budget one, but it might help someone! Unfortunately you didn't say which Axim you have, so I can't send you a direct link, but the Brodits come in two parts - a proclip mounting platform (car specific), and then the holder for the proclip (pda or phone specific). For example, for the C4 they do a proclip for the vents, dashboard by the radio and centre vents. The price tag for all of it, including delivery, will be around £55 - and the best place I've found is GPS For Less (Clicky). I forgot to mention they do a choice of powered or non-powered holders as well, depending on which you prefer. I'll stop sounding like a brodit sales rep and go and collect my commission :D hehe Quote
jimbobfruitbat Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 Thanks for the links. Maybe beyond my budget but some of the Herbert Richter products are not too expensive. The PDA I have is a Dell Axim X3i. If there's a link specific to the C4 I'd be grateful if you could post it, as I couldn't find one which matched my exact requirements. Any concerns about vent mounts and overheating the PDA, or am I just worrying about nothing? Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Here's a direct link to the configurator for the proclip:- Clicky As for overheating - I did wonder about this, but my mate's Axim X51V seems to have no problem in his BMW; to be sure I'd close the vent off whilst my PDA was mounted though, I think! C4VTS Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I have a Brodit mount and got it from here Total cost about £43 with a PDA mount. Quote
jimbobfruitbat Posted January 3, 2007 Author Posted January 3, 2007 That may be expensive for a piece of plastic, but at least I'll know it fits properly. Thanks! Quote
Mat Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 At work we used some sunction mounts from RAM Mounts/ for holding antennas onto helicopter windscreens. They worked ok on helicopters, so unless you live down a very bumpy farm track, they will not fall off your C4 windscreen. They are modular too, so you can buy the PDA holder, with a car suction mount and a bike mount, and swap and change (if you so desire) Quote
Safety Engineer Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Have used the same people as C4VTS for my Brodit mounts, pricey yes but they look smart in the car and once the mount is fitted you can swap bits over easily. Quote
jimbobfruitbat Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 I can't decide between the "Angled Mount" and the "Angled Mount Low". Has any of you chosen one or the other? The Low version looks more solid. Quote

jimbobfruitbat Posted February 15, 2007 Author Posted February 15, 2007 Got the Brodit Angled Mount for £41.50 new from an ebay seller. Nice and sturdy, not like those wobbly arms on suction pads! Quote
