Fizzo17 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Hi. Just got a tomtom one and was wondering where everyone positioned their sat navs. I have got mine on the quarter light on the drivers door at the moment. Position is good for visability but poor for access to 12v socket. Where is your prefered position? Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 My TomTom is stuck to the bottom right hand corner of the windscreen, but as you say the wire has to drape across the dash Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 My TomTom is stuck to the bottom right hand corner of the windscreen, but as you say the wire has to drape across the dash thats where mine is, but ive put an extra 12volt socket in the little tray (bottom right under dash), so its powere from there and i feed the cable between the door and dash (blue tacked) so its neater. wozza Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 i just leave mine plugged into the centre of the windscreen just above the speedo. wire gets in the way but its the best place for it to go cable is not long enough otherwise. Quote
Stuey Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I keep looking at Tomtom's. I suppose dangling cables is something you have to live with if you want to move it from car to car... Quote
Mat Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I have Tomtom running on my Nokia N70. I have a phone mount attached to the airvent above the radio. The GPS is bluetooth, and sits on the dashboard - it has rubber feet so doesnt slide when going round corners. I have never yet needed to have any cables in the car ( I do have cigarette chargers for both my N70 and my GPS, just never needed to use them). When i arrive at my destination, the GPS gets hidden in the drawer to the right of the steering wheel, and my N70 pops into my pocket. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Tucked away at the bottom right of the screen to, but i hardly ever have the calbles connected, just charge it at home... Quote
Fizzo17 Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 Tucked away at the bottom right of the screen to, but i hardly ever have the calbles connected, just charge it at home... Yeah that was what I intend to do. Trying to find a cheap mains charger so I dont have to connect it to the computer (daughter has her ipod connected all the time!) Quote
xavtia Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 mines on the quarter light on the door, got an extension that runs under the seat and come out at the side of the seat, which makes it easier, cant reach the window cause I'm a bit short and I would struggle to wipe the sucker mark off the window everytime I get out. Quote
iannez Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 we used to fit garman street pilots. we just pulled door seal away from front of door and ran the wire down the gap and pushed the seal back on and it coverd and held the wire in place. then cut off the plug and hard wired it into ignition. we now fit tom toms and these have a voltage dropper in plug so they can not be hard wired so we just hard wire lighter socket instead and cable tie it up behind dash and just plug in the socket. hertsnminds Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 I have a Garmin Nuvi 610 and that sits in the middle draw so the wires just go straight down to the centre console. If your journey is under 3 hours you can usually get away with just using the battery so no need for any wires. Just 1 of the reasons I prefer the Garmin over the TomTom, it is thinner and has a flat back. If you are using any part of the glass and the suction mount leaves a mark on the screen this is a sign for tea leaves that you have something worth nicking in the car. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
