citroeneddie Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Anyone got a EGS gearbox system? I'm looking to change my C5 eventually and would like some opinions please. Possible 13% car tax in 2008/9. Cheers Eddie Quote
CoolCarbon Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Got it in my C4 VTR+....Nice... :D It will seem a bit Odd to start with....but after a few miles....Just the Job! Smooth changes... several different way of using it, just as quick at changing gear as a manual..you have the same control over the Gearbox as a manual, just no clutch to pedal. Traction control keeps the front wheels from spinning on wet roads if you are aggressive with gas when setting off... ;) Even keeps the brakes on if you're on an incline and have been keeping the car stationary at, say traffic lights, on the foot brake...this gives you the time to get your right foot over to the Gas pedal without the car rolling, they release a soon as you add power...You should of course have been waiting with the Handbrake on really.... :D So far, So good.... :D Quote
wozza Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Id like a go of a car with the EGS box on to try it out. Shame they have not got it in the sportier models though as im sure the 6th gear would be useful in the VTS180. And since it changes as quick as the manual I would not have much complains there. Just every single box of this type i tried so far I did not like but they were cheaper cars so its a bit different were also older. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 You ought to try the DSG box. I have driven both the Golf 2.0tdi DSG and the 3.2TT with DSG both are fantastic with seamless changes Quote
wozza Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 DSG box is a little different though. That is a great bit of kit where as the EGS is more of a normal manual without a clutch pedal. Not a dual clutch system like the DSG. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Aha, hopefully better than the poor effort Mercedes made with the A-class. Drove this back in 1999, gearbox looked exactly like a manual but no clutch so would creep like an auto in first. Good in theory but impossible to get a smooth change, made a crap car even worse. wozza Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 The A-Class was a crap car though. Not often you get a prestige marque recalling its car cause it flips over during certain evasive maneuvers. Safety at its finest. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Indeed, that and the Audi TT for the same reason. They did look better pre-wing. Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 I've driven a car with the EGS - it's a fun drive; but not sure I'd want it for a sporty style drive out though! Quote
citroeneddie Posted January 17, 2007 Author Posted January 17, 2007 Thanks for the advice all. I do about 36k miles per annum, mainly motorway so I'm not too bothered about sporty style. But the prospect of a semi automatic at 13% company car tax in 2008/9 appeals to me. Quote
bill03 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 It's cheaper to tax than my bike!! For 12 months, £60.00 for the bike and £50.00 for the car. Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I love my C3 Sensodrive. If Motability lowered the deposit for the C4 EGS VTR+ 5 dr I might consider having one. I won't have the C4 1.6i 16V Auto SX. as its too greedy on petrol and it hasn't the goodies what my C3 Exclusive has. Citroen could give the C4 SX some extra goodies as The C3 SX has Digital Air Con and Auto lights and wipers like the C3 Exclusive has. I know there is a C4 Cool avalible but not in Automatic. If not ill have another C3 Sensodrive. Quote
