terrwilk Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Hello everyone, Just done a check on my tyres, which are the original Michelins!! and done 20K Thinking, because its a 2.0L HDI, the front tyres would be wearing the worst, but NO, both rear tyres are showing signs of feathering, the inside tread is deeper than the outside. This is very unusual on a front wheel drive car, ALL my other cars had very even tyre wear on the rear wheels. I will be taking it in to the dealer as I suspect rear suspension geometry is incorrect. The front tyres appear to be wearing in the usual pattern for front wheel drive with power steering. Any input from you guy's would be appreciated. Terrwilk :D Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 How often have you been checking your tyre pressures and do you keep the boot loaded all of the time? Just a thought.... Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Rear tyres should last almost forever Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Rear tyres should last almost forever... if looked after :) But yes in normal circumstances they will out live the fronts at least two sets to one if not more. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 ... if looked after  But yes in normal circumstances they will out live the fronts at least two sets to one if not more.Obviously  Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Is it?  Some people drive round with the carcas hanging out of a tyre with the steel belt tapping as it goes round. Thats "obviously" not right but the driver thinks it is ok. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 i meant Obviously to my post, "Rears last almost forever", Obviously they do if you keep them at correct pressure.that sort of person your on about, is the type to most likley not have an mot, insurance, road tax and couldnt care a toss. Dissagree  I bet you walk into any supermarket carpark and walk round and will see a number of cars which could earn the owner 6 points if not 12. Is it stupidity, nievity, negligence, laziness or dont understand or care?? You have to remember there are people who are out there driving their cars round and round and round in a tidy car fully insured and MOT'd but have low pressure in the tyre go on the motorway have a blow out either end up in a ditch or hit someone else and winge and moan about how the tyre blew out...if they can. At no point did they think it was obvious to check the pressure in the tyre regulary, or thought about the empty washer bottle...etc. Scary thought but true. Have been there, seen it happen and had to deal with the clear up. Quote

lee_marshuk Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 True - but having said that I don't check my tyre pressures and oil level as frequently as I did on previous cars - I probably only do it every other month now, whereas I used to do it every fortnight. Quote

You can make the assumption they arnt but that is because they have an interest in their car and contribute to the forum. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Went to kwikfit today as I had a screw through the middle of my front tyre. While I was there they told me I needed both rears replacing too, bearing in mind my car was serviced last week and Citroen didn't bother to tell me my rears were below the wear bar. To top it off the wheels are all unbalanced again, and the dealer only managed to get them balanced them last week after having a juddering steering wheel for the past 20,000miles....arghhhhhhh...so back to the dealer again next week. Kwikfit also wanted to put the new spare on the car along with the other 3 replacements, unfortunately Citroen provide you with a 15" steel spare with a balloon tyre, so no can do. Just have to wait another 1000miles to wear out the one remaining old tyre. Quote
Welshguy Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I was worrying about my tyres yesterday because of the high winds..I came out of my street to goto work and was following the car in front...when all of a sudden they braked hard..a wooden fence had been blown over into the road...they had no choice but to go over it, and so did I... Checked the tyres last night...thankfully there doesn't look like there is any damage... Do they use the tap over weights or the stick on ones? Just wondering how a tyre becomes unbalenced other than the weights comming off...or unless you have flat spots on your tyres? :) Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Stick ons on the inside of the rim. When I say they became unbalanced, I mean that they were balanced prior to the new tyres and now kwikfit have had their hands on the car to replace the rubber they have managed to balance in way that means my steering wheel judders violently at motorway speeds Quote
C4VTS Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 So far for me Citroen have been the only people able to balance my wheels, but at £50 a go it's not cheap. Does anyone know a tyre fitting company that can balance C4 wheels properly? Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 towards the end of last year i got a puncture in the right front, i took it to a local small garage. the removed tyre, repaired puncture and re balanced tyre, ive had no problems since.Just a thought, i wonder how many tyre places have their balance machines calibrated or out of calibration?
