Hi, its great to be able to read a lot of information from other c4 owners.

I have decided to get a C4 1.6 hd1 vtr+ coupe and have been hunting around for the best deals mainly pre reg, I have read the scare stories on pre reg but still willing to give it a go. I wondered if any users had used any sites that they reccomend, I have seen dc cooks mentioned a few times already.

The 2nd thing I wanted to ask about is this EGS, does it really save you money in fuel and is it worth the extra money.

Lastly I was looking at options, I would like the sunroof but things like bluetooth & Xenon lights option is this best fitted at the start or will somewhere like halfords be cheaper.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum Baggies...

Mine was 11months old when i picked mine up and have no untorward problems other than what has been mentioned elsewhere on the forum. I hunted the Citroen Website for the model I wanted and went marching in to the dealer. Managed to negotiate a good deal and walked away a happy man.

If you are looking for a vehicle fitted with the full length sun roof they are pretty scarce but not rare as hens teeth. They are out there but need to be found.

Also HID I believe is only fitted as standard to VTS/Exclusive Models. You can buy HID kits which have been discussed on the forum.

I cant comment on the EGS as I have never driven one.

Hi baggies,

On the EGS question....

I bought it because I liked the idea of the semi-auto box as well as the advertising Blurb of "Up to 6% Improved Fuel Consumption" ...

I had the exact same model car, a VTR+ Hdi 110hp 3 Door Coupe, before I got this one last month.

It had the 5 speed manual, which I used for 14 Months and did just over 14,000 miles in it, so I feel that makes me fairly qualified to comment...

This EGS equipped car is is now just over a month old and has covered 1200 miles-ish. At the moment it is running at approx 10% worse fuel consumption than the previous one, which is really pissing me off!

I am travelling the same roads, driving it in the same manner, no change basically in driving habits/destinations, well, that's not strictly speaking true.

I am actually driving it more gently than the 5 speed manual in an effort to match the previous cars MPG, but to no avail!

I phoned Citroen Customer Services helpline and voiced my concerns....all the Muppet on the other end could come up with, "You are driving it differently, you must be braking/accelerating harder" etc etc. As if he could possibly know what my driving was before or now...

I have 11 different driving qualifications so I kinda have an idea as to what I'm doing behind the wheel of a motor, be that a 44 Tonne LGV Artic or 90 Seat Coach or Motorcycle etc....

I asked him what qualifications he had that equipped him to pass such a comment..." I don't see what relevance that has "...was all he could say... after telling me that My driving style must have changed....

So, after thanking him for his Zero input, I have decided to give it another couple of thousand miles before I mention it to the dealer again.

I did tell them after the second day that it was a lot more thirsty than the one I had just chopped in, but didn't push it as I know that some engines can take a wee while to loosen up....we'll see.

In all honesty, I doubt that the EGS has anything to do with the increased consumption, more likely to be an engine related matter.

I like the EGS so will be sticking with it........for now...

I also spec'd it up to include the full length sunroof as well as the JBL upgrade and heated Leather seats... but they wont have added 10% to the MPG.....I hope! :D

Thanks that has helped, I have always thought with automatics semi or not they always take more fuel but the C4 specs is saying it does better so only time will tell I suppose.

I see the option you added the sunroof, I am a confused newbie I saw the option in the mag £500 and thought it was a sunroof you open and close, shop just told me its not like that at all, I kept being confusd with people saying full length sunroof

on the sunroof thing...There is a glass roof option that cost about £1500 that goes 3 quarters the way down the top of the car. The £400-£500 option is the normal tilt and slide one. I dont think anyone on here has it.

I am sure there is only a glass roof option which does not open, and is about £500.

Just to confirm it was £500 for my full length Glass roof that does not open.

It extends from the top of the Windscreen back to the strip that the roof Ariel sits on...

You get two sliding fabric covers inside that roll away into the roof lining that allows you to have the front half, rear half or both 'open' so you have a view into the wide blue yonder...... :)

What mods are undertaken to the standard Coupe shell to fit the roof? Obviously a big hole is cut but would imagine roll over protection and structural regidity would have to be added...Is there much of a weight gain/loss?

Comparing the two cars I've had/have, I'd say that the car is built with the hole there anyway, around the safety cell...

Then it's just a matter of slipping in a metal or glass panel....securing it with whatever bonding material they use to hold the plot together..then adding the different internal trim...

May be a bit simplistic, but I feel that's prolly the gist of it...can't see much major surgery going on if it's 'only' an extra £500 to add the glass panel........

they must have to strengthen the chassis a fair bit unless the glass is super strong reinforced stuff. Vandals paradise, and just think how much RainX you would need on it  not to mention the bird turds!!

I suspect cleaning it could be fun too...

After spending an hour claening it to get in and see all the smeary bits!

Still you'd use half as much polish as those with the standard roof!...i hate waxing the roof

Ive got the full glass roof.. go ooooon buy it - its worth every penny.... well if you are a passenge it is anyway - you dont really appreciate it as the driver!!

proibably very highly strengthened the glass as well. The panaroramic roof on the new astra 3 door is bulletproof to keep the rigidity of the car and the rollover protection there.
