Guest james Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 The Citroen website describes the VTR+ as coming with RDS stereo radio/CD player/ MP3 player compatible. Myself and the Citroen salesman assumed this to mean that it plays MP3 CDs but with the one car I tried it wouldnt read the CD. Can any VTR+ owners confirm if it should read MP3 CDs or whether I need the JLB upgrade to do this? Thanks Quote
CoolCarbon Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 My JBL Upgrade has a wee Mp3 sticker over the CD slot...the Standard Head unit in my previous VTR+ didn't. I've not tried a Mp3 in it so you'll have to draw your own conclusions... Quote
welshys90 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 i've got the JBL speaker package and i know mines reads mp3 cd's no bother because thats all i ever really have in it Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 I sat in the new C4 picasso last week and the head unit is the same as the standard unit on our C4 exccept for the mp3 badge on it Quote
Guest james Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 What do you think the chances are of picking up a cheap JLB/PicC4 headunit from a scrap dealers and installing it into a C4? I'm gonna miss MP3 CD, even with a CD changer. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 ive got a feeling they may be coded to the car, and the head unit from a C4 picasso will be like rocking horse Sh*t to get hold of. but a service department maybe able to recode one at a cost. Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Stupid question - you were putting the MP3 CD into the main head unit and not a CD changer? Quote

Stuey Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 this is a point of contention...mine does play MP3's but some peoples dont... Quote
bill03 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Try a different make of CD and write/burn at low speed. :) Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I'm not a techno IT guru but have found that different ripping software has eppies with my MP3 player. Its works with one program but refuses with others. Quote
skaramanga Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Mine has the JBL and plays mp3's okay, but it doesn't have a mp3 logo at the cd slot  Have I been cheated out of the logo? Quote
Seefour05 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 If you have iTunes, why not try making cd's with it but change the options to make it an Audio cd. Always worked with mine no problem. Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Mine has the JBL and plays mp3's okay, but it doesn't have a mp3 logo at the cd slot  Have I been cheated out of the logo? If you have I have too! I wish the changer played mp3 cds too :-( Quote
wozza Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 If you have iTunes, why not try making cd's with it but change the options to make it an Audio cd. Always worked with mine no problem. Cause thats not an MP3 cd so you cant get 100+ songs on it which is the whole point of mp3 discs. Quote
Woof Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Have a standard SX hatch 3 months old, until I read this thread had not tried an MP3 disk in the player. So one hour ago I cut a cd mp3 compilation on a cheapo disk at 48x and now back in from the cold can report that it worked perfectly. Quote
wozza Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Really is just luck of the draw it seems. Wierd thing is the JBL upgrade is the same headunit so there must be a setting on it that can be turned on or off. Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 FYI the MP3 logo was added on the later revisions that's all. Now I remember the techie saying to me that the head unit on the standard radios ignored mp3s unless it was exactly the right specification - whereas the NaviDrive tells you it isn't right - I'll ask him again tomorrow and see what he has to say. Hmm...methinks my local garage is going to love me by the end of Wednesday! Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Allegedly the handbook states that the head unit "may" play MP3 CDs. I'm going to have a read tomorrow and see exactly what it says, however he said that some units are and others aren't - the only way to tell them apart is by their serial number ranges. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I can confirm that my 54 reg SX hatch does not play MP3 Cds Quote
C4VTS Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 RD4N2M does play MP3's. RD4N1 does not. Have a standard SX hatch 3 months old, until I read this thread had not tried an MP3 disk in the player. So one hour ago I cut a cd mp3 compilation on a cheapo disk at 48x and now back in from the cold can report that it worked perfectly. Are you sure that was MP3 and not just a CDR with CD audio converted from MP3 which NERO7 does very well.If it's an MP3 CD then you would have about 8 normal CD's on one disk. An audio CD only holds about 20 tracks at the very most. Quote
wozza Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Mines an RD4 N1 01 So guessing first revision. Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 That's the answer then - found out today that it's luck of the draw which head unit you got, however the techie did say it only seemed to be the earlier cars that complained of the issue. Early head unit (1) no MP3 support, later head unit (2) MP3 support? Seems that way then... Quote
mike_ro Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Hey guys! It's been a while since I last visited your formus but please, let me take you all back to this subject. My C4 VTR 1.4 was picked up on 29th of December, I have ordered an mp3 player also, and mine has the mp3 logo. The bad thing is that, after 4 weeks or so, the mp3 player started all of a sudden to jump from CD to radio after listening to a cd for like 20 mins or so. Another bug was that if I had listened a CD before turning off the engine, it would have started on radio when turning on the engine back again. I had no explanation for this and went in with the car. The guys said they have no idea and ordered a brand new one which will be replaced. The funny thing is that in the past two days, all the bad things seem to just have vanished. Everything is ok again. No jumping, no turning off issue, everything just perfect! Right now I'm quite puzzled about this issue, and was wondering if anyone of you guys knows what might have happened. Thanks and regards! Quote
Stuey Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 mine likes to jump from CD to radio and back again, no idea what causes it but it is just a push of a button to sort it. Quote
