idlerobbo Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Now Ive kind of got my JBL optimal I do get an annoying judder/rattle/twinge/sneeze/pop/shudder/thumble/rumble/pump noise from my door panels when the music is loud - or should i say a high bass song. Has anyone succeeded in stopping this? Or is there a guide to resolve it? I think ive noticed it every so slightly in the rear too (of my car that is!) but no idea where to start... Quote
CoolCarbon Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Have the same problem... B) It's worse if you have anything in the door pockets, they should be lined with a light felt or similar as whatever you have in the pockets exacerbates the vibration problem... My argument is that if you spend £350 'extra' to upgrade the ICE, then the environment should be upgraded to cope, otherwise it's money down the Pan. I wasn't able to hear the JBL Upgrade before buying the Car....disappointed with the overall performance  Quote

I feel a bit robbed too.. damn plastic! Quote
Stuey Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 there is a dealer fix for this. Lee Marsh knows more about it. I think they replace the fixing screws and that sorts it. Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 can i edit the topic to have a FAO Lee Marsh!? Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Its so hard to explain the noise to anyone too isnt it! I feel a bit robbed too.. damn plastic! It sounds like you have a bag of washers in the door pockets with a few Biros in for good measure. I have this although NOT the JBL upgrade Quote
wozza Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Edited...somewhat. Less time i have to use this keyboard the better. If you wanna spend a bit more money though get some sound proofing stuck in the doors as well. will give you nicer sound and get rid of a fair few rattles in the process. Quote
jonfish Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 The washers / biros analogy is pretty close, but this morning at a recorded -3C I got from the front passenger door the most extraordinary sound like a a couple of sparrows having a karoke party. When the car had warmed it returned to the normal intermittent rattle. Maybe it's the subzero temperature warning alarm. I did wonder if you should get an audible warning for this. Do other peoples doors freeze shut ? I noticed the black velvet-like seals get wet then freeze sticking to the door frame paint work. Is this supposed to happen ? Has anyone used any products to help stop this ? I remember there used to be some kind of silicone release product advertised. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 it normally happens when my cars been washed or its been raining, then it freezes, its a pain, ive tried back to black spray on a rag and wipped all of the seals. but not too sure if it works as next day its mild blood british weather bit of ice/snow and the whole contry comes to a stand still  Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Hehe sorry I am here, but been nowhere near a computer for a day or two. Yes, I had the same problem. You couldn't use the bass unless you were playing something really tinny because the rear window sounded like it was about to drop out and the door panels sounded like...yep...they were about to bloody blow off!! There is a fix registered on their system for it - as I've said before if they can't find it let me know and I'll find out the document number or similar for you, but as far as I can tell they replace the screws in the door panels with slightly taughter ones (is there such a word?) - cured it a treat for me. The next problem I had was the external door handle vibrating with the bass - that was cured quickly as well, although I don't know what they did. Finally - the rear window thing is a bit odd, I'm getting them to investigate this again tomorrow; it did go away for a while, but I think it's a cold thing - when the weather is a bit warmer, it doesn't seem to happen. I'll keep you posted on this one anyway. Go blow the blaady doors off mate! Quote
Welshguy Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I got from the front passenger door the most extraordinary sound like a a couple of sparrows having a karoke party. What the hell does that sound like? 80's or 90's music? Quote

idlerobbo Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks Lee, This morning (-1 temp) I played Everything in its right place by radiohead and it wasnt even loud but the back window did indeed sound like it was going to fall out... I would appreciate the paperwork lee if you have any official lines on what they did - the thing is my garage are rubbish and they will claim they 'couldnt locate the fault' as they do every time! That sparrows playing kareoke actually made me laugh out loud... Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Right - well the back window falling out thing is an issue with the unit that houses the rear brake light etc - can't remember if you have the coupe or not - they are going to have to investigate it further, but if you crank the bass right up so it is making the noise permanently, and then hold the unit towards the opposite side of the car to where the sub sits - apply a bit of pressure, and it all goes away. Will keep you posted on that. As for the door fix the techy wasn't there but I'll phone up for you and find out. Leave it with me for a tick! Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 thanks mate! yeah I have a coupe VTS. I really appreciate your help - this morning it was doing it (-2 today) at a song that really isnt that bassy (is that a word). Quote
