idlerobbo Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 thanks for that reply... although I dont think its the news I want is it? :-( Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 what do you think will happen? points? fine? Quote
CoolCarbon Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 If the car is registered to you at your home address, you should get a Fixed Penalty notice through the post within the next 14 days... If you have less than 9 points already, you should be able to pay the £60 fine and have 3 points added to your licence... If nine or more, it's a visit to the magistrates court... Quote
Welshguy Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 How long after the red? I did this once...but I never got a ticket as the camera activates a second or two after the lights turn red. Quote
syrup Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I know that's not you wanted to hear, just showing you how they work. It's pointless pre-empting the outcome, it's just a case of wait and see and hope for the best.I'm sure all on the forum hope it turns out ok and there was no film. Quote
C4VTS Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Please tell me those traffic cameras on top of the traffic lights dont work!? What do they actually do?Can anyone advise? There are NO cameras on top of traffic lights. They are just radar sensors to detect traffic flow, so they know how much traffic is flowing and the speed. They don't enforce any laws. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 as C4VTS said.... I don't know of cameras on top of traffic lights, only the ones positioned just before the lights that look like mini gatsos. Or if in London you have to watch out for the CCTV cameras which have a habit of catching you in yellow hatched boxes Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 As before the little boxes mounted ontop are for camera operation. The Gatso... http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/6088/trafficsignalcamera5iv.jpg and Monitron http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/6668/g2217hf.jpg (Set up as a speed camera) are typically mounted by lights for snapping Red Light Jumpers. Side note the above pic of the monitron is taken about half mile down the road from where I live and can also see the Gatso in the distance (above Yellow mini) which also faces the same direction. Thankfully the large sign infront of the Monitron has now been removed. I dont condone speeding et al and we all make mistakes....Monitrons are complete bar-stewards on Traffic Lights as not only will they go off if you jump the light they will also knick you for speeding through the lights. So even trying to race the lights and succesfully get through, but if you are over the limit you've had it. Quote

I like this response best :-) they are the little ones that are directly on top of the traffic lights i was talking about... I am a very careful driver and dont normally make these mistakes. I could understand it if i had raced through the lights but i was just being distracted. Quote
BigJohnD Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 My favourite Gatso http://www.thenewspaper.com/rlc/pix/moreton.jpg What the press article doesn't say, is that after Merseyplod removed the garden waste bag, another one was put over the Gatso during the next night! Quote
Stuey Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 there is a Gatso near me that was blown up with a firework, another had expanding foam put in it and the lenses are always being spray painted. I dont think the police are bothered about putting film in them anymore. Another trick with Gatso's. If an emergency vehicle is going down that road with blues on then the cameras are turned off for a few minutes, or you could always go past them at 150mph+ as they cant react fast enought to catch you. I like the latter solution personally  Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Only once have I seen a Gtaso go off whilst in a queue of traffic..... We were sat in a long queue of traffic and we had token Max'ed Nova GTE infront. As the traffic in front moved forward they would hold back until a big gap formed and they'd floor it up to the end of the queue. Unfortunatly he did this as he went passed a camera in a 30mph limit and thus *FLASH* - *FLASH* got snapped. ;) Complete nugget. Quote
wozza Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 theres a few traffic lights with light sensors on them as well which you can flash as you approach and the lights change to green. Saw a police car do this the other day on the way home at 4am so i had to try it out... Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 I thought that was a taxi driver myth to make them feel good about themselves? Quote
wozza Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 It did work yes. Not all the lights only a few of them do it but its worth a try. Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I'm pretty sure the majority of the lights in Bristol are all timed and on induction loops in the vain attempt to keep traffic moving... which it doesnt. :D Quote
Welshguy Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 There are a few lights that can be changed in Cardiff by being flashed, although I've noticed that this tends to work a lot more at late night. Quote
xavtia Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 lots of traffic lights work on sensors in the road, you can usually see the cut out in the road, there's a junction in accrington where all the taxis sit and flash their lights but the sensor is in the road so they are just reducing the life of the bulbs Quote
