Welshguy Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Having recently talked about Angel Tuning, it reminded me I needed to enquire if they still offered 1.4 tuning, as the option had been removed from Angel's site. I fired off a quick email, and got an impressive reply in terms of detail - see pieces of the email below. Wondering what people's opinions are RE: performance gained versus price? And wasn't somebody sorting out discounts? ;) Dear Darren Thank you for your enquiry. We offer engine remapping, the modern version of chipping which is the correct way to safely tune a modern petrol engine. With ECU remapping you get smooth and progressive power, with improved response, that can be tailored to your requirements. We offer a fast and friendly service from our fleet of new vans, which are fully equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment as well as a vast array of tuning hardware. Whilst we normally book 2-3 weeks in advance it depends when you book in as we can often get customers in earlier. Our charge for the 1.4 is £275 including VAT. This price includes the engine tuning work to add up to 9bhp, (10lb ft torque) pre and post testing, acceleration testing and travel to your home or workplace wherever it may be in mainland UK. Our pre tested and proven engine maps can be customised to the car and the drivers requirements (hence the “up to” as we can do less if required), then tested on the road, where it counts using a calibrated performance meter when conditions allow. Whilst we are unable to give an accurate figure on the improvement in economy after your car has been tuned, most people get between 1-3mpg improvement on petrol vehicles providing your driving style and the speed you drive at does not change! As the engine is running more efficiently, the emissions are actually improved so there will be no problem at MOT time should you have the car at that point. Quote
Stuey Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 thats pretty good!! Im getting tempted by it again... Quote

And wasn't somebody sorting out discounts? ;) I was intregued by someone saying I could get 180bhp out of my vts if it was re-mapped. Is this the company I would use? (sorry im not thread stealing just didnt want to make another about this company) Quote
Stuey Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 yep these would indeed the people you need to talk to. Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 any ideas how much this is likely to cost for me? 138bhp - 180 is quite a jump!?? Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Drop them a line I would, no harm in asking...also could find out what is exactly involved.... Quote
wozza Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Its actually about 170ish but then again so is the VTS180 its actually 177bhp. But the torque gains would be huge. Id say wait a while and check on the other forum c4owner is in the proces of getting all the artwork from angeltuning to add to the site once thats done and the membership stuff is finalized i will let you know and let you know of discounts. Or you can just keep checking the other forum. To get the discounts though you will have to join the other site which is like £5 but you should receive a bigger amount than that on a discount so it pays for its self. Also get window stickers and a card sent with membership info for discounts as well. Were looking to get a few other companies to offer discounts but he has told me theres a fair bit of paperwork to do at the moment. Were also sorting the FCS2007 stuff out right now so we can get a C4 stand. What they do depends on the ECU fitted to your car the 2.0's some of them can be a bit of a bugger to remap with the differing ecu's. They can still be done might just require a bit more time. All they do is plug a laptop into the diagnostic port under the ashtray and load up the software and alter the engine map. You go for a test drive to see how its doing but keep in mind it will get better after a few drives due to the ecu adjusting its self a little more after the map. Nothing to lose really as if you see no improvement then they will refund your money and put the original stock map back on the engine. Quote

Sounds pretty sweet - might have to stump up the cash. what sort of discount would we be talking for being a member of the other site? Quote
Welshguy Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Sounds pretty sweet - might have to stump up the cash. what sort of discount would we be talking for being a member of the other site? It does sound good doesn't it - the gains aren't massive, but then again so is my engine and it could do with all the help it can get. Can always get a refund if I'm not satisfied as well... What I really need is another 1.4 VT owner to get it done and give me his/her opinion! Quote
Mike5483 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Could we get a list from Angel of the different engines and the power they can get from them??? Id be interested to see what my car would get from a remap. Quote
wozza Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Its here mate pdf format. http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/pdfs/engine/Citroen.pdf Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 As a word of warning not all ECUs will take the map and can become corrupted, meaning you will have to buy a new unit at considerable cost. However this is pretty unlikely. Quote
wozza Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Very unlikely. They have to have some adjustment as some software updates alter small bits on them occasionally and with lower quality fuels etc it has to be adjusted. Quote
c14vts Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 re-mapping for the petrol 2.0l do they do that too i wonder or is this only for the diesel <_< Quote
wozza Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 email and ask they do petrol 1.4's and 1.6's. Quote
Mike5483 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 The 2 Litre petrol isnt listed. Shame, a bit more oomph would have been nice. Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I just called them and they said that It would be £295 for my 2.0 VTS (altho I wasnt sure if I had the Turbo verison or not - i really should know this shouldnt i!? how can I tell?) He said that I would get an extra 14 - 15bhp - Where did the 170bhp come from that someone mentioned would be possible? Quote
wozza Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 did you say it was the diesel VTS? As yours is the turbo diesel. which gets 35+bhp The petrol would get 15bhp ish. Like my 1.6 would. Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 its the diesel VTS ive got yes - does that mean that its got the turbo? I thought there was an even higher model to the VTS or not?] im confusing myself I think! he said there was a diesel version thats already 180bhp... is that mine?? haha god im being rubbish! Quote
wozza Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 The diesel with 170 or so is in the C5 its a twin turbo engine. All the C4 diesels are turbo's and the petrols are all N/A....At the moment. There is a 1.6 turbo petrol engine coming to the line up soon. Quote
c14vts Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 petrol vts will they do re-mapping to this or not whats this about 1.6 turbo NO NO NO they need to turbo the 2.0l and i would b first in the q for 1 surely if they turbo the 1.6 it will only ever get the same hp as the 2.0l in the end ,if so whats the point what is needed is a vts to beat at all levels of different manufacturers .ie honda civic ayone got any info on this turbo 1.6 <_< Quote
idlerobbo Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I wonder why he told me I would only get 14-15 bhp extra then? Quote
wozza Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Well he possibly thought you were asking about 1 of the 2.0 petrols. Its on the price list as having a 35bhp increase for the 2.0HDI. You did tell him it was an HDI diesel right? And a 1.6 turbo will hit 200bhp without much problems with more torque than the current 2.0 and less weight. Which would put it around 6 seconds to 60 compared to the 8 seconds or so it does currently. Theres already kits for the 1.6 engines now to take them to 200bhp but you end up killing gearboxes. But i think the engine is coming out with 170bhp to start with but with lighter car and more torque will be quicker than the current 2.0. But a remap later and you would probably gain another 30bhp or so from it as well as other small mods exhaust etc which would gain decent power. Turbo engines are much easier to get extra power from. Quote
c14vts Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 might have to have a serious think about changing to that one then, guessing a bit better fuel economy too will it still have the vts badges on or will my number plate have to go too................... any pics around to see ,or prices and dates is this all speculation or a definate :P <_< Quote
wozza Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 It was announced a while ago on a news site the VTS would be getting a 1.6 turbo. Which sounds like a small engine but when you think the C4 in a 1.6 is only 1200kg its a fairly light car actually lighter than the new Renaultsport Clio 197. VTS badge will stay ts been on citroens for years now not likely to change it. Not entirely sure when it will be getting the engine im guessing when the facelift appears also heard a rumour they may be sticking the engine in the C2 which could be massive fun. Quote
