My ongoing suspicion of a front suspension issue has now gone even furthur.

My car has always suffere with a knock coming from (what I believe) is the front passenger side suspension.

The car then started making a noise when pulling off, but only for the first time. Its a graunchy noise and only happens as I say when pulling away if its been left for a while, as the front of the car lifts up.

Now, this noise has been getting worse, it does it for longer now, it used to be as the nose started coming up, now its there until the nose starts settling down again. Once its done it once, it doesn't do it again.

Now however, something else has happened.

When I am driving round bends, if the front passenger wheel goes down a hole of finds a bit of rough surface, the wheel jsut comes alive and 'squirms' in my hands. It can be rather un-nerving.

It also does it if I go over cats eyes at speed, anything that rapidly unsettles the front wheels.

Im staring to think maybe the dampers are to blame.

Does anyone have any experiance of this, from the C$ or any other cars???

My nearside suspension has an ongoing knocking noise, but strangely it has hardly been noticeable since the last service, and the dealer has already replaced the front shocks. It has now been reported as "under investigation by Citroen" which probably means it will never get fixed.

There are some things under the bonnet that could be to blame, as I think my air filter housing makes a knocking sound when it moves, and that is on the nearside, but don't think it's that.

My car has now developed an internal rattle which is currently disguising all the other knocking and rattling noises that need fixing. Latest one seems to be coming from glovebox area, if anyone knows what that could be?

Mine does the same thing- if you hit a bad piece of road it really bangs the front suspension which annoyingly seems to jolt the steering which as you say is a bit unnerving. I've got a few rattles that need fixing so going to ask them to take a look whilst they are at it. Would be interested to know if it is a problem or just a characteristic of the car.

Yeh, can just imagine Citroen saying, 'don't worry it's just your front wheel falling off, they all do that after a while'.

Its Citroen customer service so you never know :D I drove a new civic the other day though and that was a bit crashy on rough service (though didnt bang through the steering wheel like mine).

A friend of mine has a new Civic and I must say I really like that car

It doesn' seem to have so many issues

Now, this was my first purchase of a new car, and the reason I bought a new car was that I didn't want to worry about anything as I don't really know much about cars.

You guys seem to be more knowledgeable...

Can you tell me if other manufacturers have similar issues? Say I bought a BMW1 (which I don't like so much), or a Peugoet, or a VW...Would they all suffer from some minor issues like our C4s do?

Is this a common problem today, when manufacturers rush their models and don't take the time needed to make a car reliable. Is it the use of cheap materials? Is it done intentionally, so they can sell you new parts and a new car in 5 years? Or a combination of everything?

What are your thoughts on this?

edit: Stuey, what the hell happened to your car? :D Who smashed it?

most cars that are new from the ground up such as the C4 suffer with little problems like we have, there are cars that suffer with a lot more problems that cost a lot more than the C4 too. I dont think it is anything to with selling more parts in 5 years at all.

as for what happened to my car. I got forced off the road just before Christmas and went up a bank and into some trees....not the best way to start the Christmas holiday...

Many many cars get recalled VW's BMW's Audi's etc they all have small problems at first when there is a brand new model

Thats why a lot of companies just keep altering there product and changing it externally and internally but leaving all the important bits the same. Just give it a facelift.
