Its done 35000 miles spoke to guy at citroen in bedford he thinks it maybe a airflow sensor playing up just as well i extended the warranty :D

I had a similar problem with SWMBO's car, a 1.4 16v Hdi 36,000 on the clock and a FCSH(that's important, right?)....you would change gear and the car would feel like someone had thrown an anchor out. A complete lack of power, it would stagnate for quite a while then suddenly go....like a rocket.

The cause......brakes :) ! That's right, Citroens usual quality braking components had let themselves down. That and the lack of attention to detail that their so called technicians put in to fitting replacement brake pads.

When most garages replace pads, they take the time to clean up the sliding surfaces and lube with a bit of copper grease. This had not been the case with the wifes' car!

The pads were seized solid in the calipers, I had to hammer them free! Front and rear!

Several hours later, corrosion removed and sliders copper greased...and I took the little motor out for a spin... :) :D B) <_< Angry....that's right. How long had the car been like this, driving around effectively with the handbrake on!

It flew, driving like another car and the the MPG had gone up, overnight.

So...before spending out on expensive sensors. Have a look at the brakes if you can, or get a friendly trusted mechanic to give the brakes the once over.

I've just had to change the front discs and pads at 45,000 (Generic discs and Delphi pads £75).... probably the third set of both in this little cars life. I'm luck, I can do these jobs myself...labour free.

My Range Rover doesn't go through brakes that quickly!!

dont think it could be diesel m8. your car would run fine on cooking oil, just would not last as long as it would not contain any lubricant. and dont start saying thats stupid because its not. most ppl know if a diesel is over filled with engine oil it gets up into the cylinders and runs at full throttle and you can't switch it off as there is no way of cutting the feed.

I had a similar problem (same engine) where I would change gear, and just after changing gear I could put my foot right to the floor but the power just wouldn't be there. After a few seconds it all came back and worked ok.

I never solved why it was happening, but it hasn't happened for a while.

I ended up pressing on the clutch when it happened, once the engine revs got up I let the clutch back up and it worked fine.

As for water in the fuel filter, that's what the drain valve is for, no? :D

I did have a similar experience of lack of power due, I believe, to a clogged up fuel filter. This was in my old car after 'cleaning' the system out with vegetable oil. (Citroen ZX with 1.9l TD Peugeot engine)
