Basically when i was reversing out the drive yesterday, i noticed a patch of "Rainbow coloured" fluid, i thought that it may be oil or petrol.

I told my parents and they said it was probs just the gardners car, which i did not believe.

Then it happened again today, got my dad out, and he said that is was not oil or petrol, but fluid from the steering, which makes sence because when i get out the drive, i have to put full lock on both ways, so if there was any fluid to be leaked, it would show up then......

Any ideas/similar probs.....cheers

By the way, it is going in 2moz anyway

Got a feeling the C4 has electronic Power Steering, I was looking for a power steering fluid reservoir the other day and could not find one, nor any mention of it in the handbook.

What colour is the fluid??? Sounds stupid, but have you tasted it/touched it/smelled it???

If you have clutch problems e.g. actuation of the clutch Ciaran, and there is funny stuff dropping on the floor I'd put my last piece of shrapnal down to it being fluid from the clutch..if it has hydraulic components.

Some modern clutches have a cable and hydraulic clutch affair....check your master cylinders and see if any fluid is lost over the next day or too. So that would be brakes clutch and steering where applicable.

Looking at it today and noting that it is below "Max" is no use as who is to say that it was ever filled up to "Max".

Suggest leaving a drip tray or piece of clean wood underneath to determin what exactly the fluid is could be oil....you will also need to get under the car to make sure it doesnt look like the aftermath of the Exxon Val'des as if you have an oil leak the underside will be a mess and dropping oil like no bodies business and will not help you find the problem.

If not get it to a garage.

If nothing, blame the gardener for being over zelous with the two stroke oil.

sounds like air con to me. the drain is directley under the heater box.

Aircon uses gas, so I doubt it's anything to do with aircon unless the radiator or heater system is leaking? :D

Air con does 'leak'. It is just condensate that is being released. Id question the fact that it is a rainbow coloured though... have you actually looked at the liquid properly, what colour is it???

as air passes over the cooler (air con) it attracts the moisture (a bit like the cold tap when you run the bath.) and it drips off into the bottom of the heater box and runs out of the drain. thats why you use air con to demist windscreen. it removes moisture from the air. no moisture no misting up.

I'm confused, so have they said its condensate off the condensor or if there is a leak in the AC system?

If its condesate then its just water. I've noticed this on many cars often in the summer at petrol stations with streams of water coming out of the underside of the car.

I'm confused as Ciaran mentioned an oily glint on the liquid...if its an AC leak the gas would vaporise to atmosphere and the leak could be a lubricant/conditioner added to keep seals sealed and sweet. Perhaps this is what can be seen?

Or is it a leak somewhere else? I'm still thinking Clutch, especially after he has posted problems with it.

I wouldnt recommend rubbing anything AC related between you fingers as anything thats been in contact with refrigerants are not the friendliest gases to be hanging about with. Engine Coolent has that horrible sweet smell and can often be smelt when the car is runnign.

Its all easy to speculate...I think we need some pics! And not of those naked ladies you've been painting Ciaran!
