stimulator Posted February 16, 2003 Posted February 16, 2003 Have been looking at the C3 as a second car. At present it cost what a Daewoo Matiz SE+ with A/C cost 3.5 years ago. haven't tried one anyone got one? Quote
mooseshaver Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 I have one, and unfortunatly I cannot recomend it because of all the faluts I have with the engine that the dealer seems incapable of fixing. Also suffers from a large amount of recalls that they don't even tell new owners about so how a second hand owner will find out I don't know. Quote

[/quote] We talking petrol or diesel here mooseshaver? I read you mentioning a loss of power in another thread when overtaking, just curious as I'm nearing the point where i'll be making enquires on acquiring the C3 1.4 16V HDi Exclusive. Quote
mooseshaver Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 1.4 HDI-16 valve 92 horsepower (except when overtaking :P ) But if you read all the other posts you can see it may be due to a recall work needing done. Or it may not. But a few people have the problem as you can see. The 1.4 HDi I drove before I got mine seemed fine for the 85 miles I drove it. If noone else has the same problems maybe one of those would be better. You get an extra 5 mpg out of it, but I would burn you off along the road in mine. When/if its fixed. HDi-16, its a satus symbol. Except its not written on the back of the car so noone knows. Quote
Guest Mark A Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 It's counterintuitive, but the 16 valve HDi (allegedly) has better fuel consumption on long distance driving than the 8 valve version. The C3 certainly provides a more relaxing experience on long motorway journeys than I expected. Cruise control isn't for everyone, but I was surprised at the positive contribution it makes to long journeys. I was concerned that cruise control would be a drowsiness-inducing device, but for me it removes one of the tedious jobs that result in fatigue. Quote

I did toy with a petrol 1.6 but I'm a diesel convert now, well happy with my normally aspirated 1.9d ZX, and with Citroen diesel engines being a few generations on from that I cant see myself being disappointed providing it does'nt die on acceleration that is. A friend bought the 1.4 HDI-16 valve a few weeks ago and seems quite happy with it, I did ask him about the acceleration and he said he had no problems with it apart from holding it back when the turbo kicks in lol. He did say he got word of a recall tho, something to do with electrics and water ingress.....i think. Quote
mooseshaver Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Sorry, but I couldn't let you buy one thinking it ws perfect. If they ever sort the problems it will be a car to recomend. Mine is finaly going in on 10th of March. Will let you know what happens. Think I shall by a merc next. Quote
mooseshaver Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Well The engine seems to run fine now, maybe a little more noisey but I'm getting used to that. And I'm sure the blowing fumes into the cockpit is just the dealers fault. Quote
mitch Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 My C3 HDi 8v Exclusive has run like clockwork since it was purchased new in June 2002 without any problems at all. No rattles, no smells, no gremlins, no paint problems, no recalls. The dealer found a small scratch on the dashboard top panel at the 1000 mile service and insisted on replacing the whole unit. Am I just lucky? John M Quote
mooseshaver Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 Do dealers get lots of money for fixing under warrenty? I can't imagine they would be so keen if you had to pay for it. My dealer would probably tell me to tape over it or something Quote
mitch Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 Actually, I had a small battle with my dealer about the dash replacement. The scratch was so small I hadn't even seen it. I really didn't need or want a replacement and I was worried about the new problems that messing about with the wiring etc. might create. The Service Manager had already ordered a new dash top (£485 apparently) and INSISTED on fitting it. Apparently, if parts are ordered under warranty, and not used, the cost is taken from the service department wages budget. I don't know if this is just my local dealer, or Citroen Service policy. Don't ask me how, but I think someone, somewhere is definitely making money out of warranty claims. Quote
mooseshaver Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 I do wonder why my Dealer ordered a CAT for my C3, I've never complained about it. there must be a fortune to be made in repairs. Quote
