What a bummer - managed to customise my C3 the wrong way this morning when I met a tree that had fallen across the road with its lights on at 0440hr. The annoying thing was the driver of a car in the opposite direction who had stopped abeam the tree - his side of the road was clear - with headlamps on mainbeam having a look at it. In the time it took to think "what's that car doing parked on the road" out of the dazzle appeared a tree.

With nowhere to go around it I then proceeded to drive through it whilst braking. Tree was dead and I cleared the road of the b***dy thing but in doing so it twisted around and dented both nearside doors, sill, rear panel and broke the back light as well as shattering the front end of the car and pushing n/s side front wing back and putting a crease in the o/s one. Needless to say the other driver drove off straight away. Car now with Citroen dealer being assessed and I'm awaiting the go ahead to be given from the insurance company to the dealer before a courtesy car is given. DEEP JOY!!!

At least I didn't feel a thing during the impact - NCAP safety really worked - but the car looks AWFUL. The plastic front end just shattered, headlamps smashed etc, but then it could have been worse - DEAD springs to mind.

Oh well - can't do much whilst awaiting of the cogs of insurance claims process to whirr into action.

Hope after all of it the car is as good as it was before the modification.

Regards

Don't be surprised if the insurance writes it off.

They did with my brothers C3.

My brothers 15 year daughter stole his car in 2005 and smashedit into 3 cars.

She put a dent on the front drivers side wing. Damaged front light and drivers side bumper.

When I checked the car myself before putting it on the back of a recovery lorry I noticed the Front passenger wheel was really loose. It wouldn't even turn.

The Gear Box was damaged and the Anti Lock Breaking System was damaged so the Inaurance wrote it off. When it went to the Dealer to be assesed they said it was a write off.

A few months later I saw it on ebay looking as good as new.

Well finally after 2 weeks of waiting for the insurance assessor to approve the repair, it's go go go!!

A bit of bartering between assessor and garage over hours estimated and discount on parts supplied but a compromise agreed. Went down to collect courtesy car this afternoon and got a good look at the car ' under the skin' as damaged front wing and all front end had been removed in the space of 2hrs. No damage to chassis so the car's crumple zones did their job - it should be as good as new when finished. 7 working days given to complete subject to parts arriving as promised - fingers crossed.

C2 1.1 SX as replacement in the interim - hummm. Should be OK to get to and fro work which is all I'm asking!

Picked the car up tonight at the appointed time - looks very good and drives well. I'll be giving it a good close check tomorrow in the daylight but initial impression is good. Repairer had to get approval for a replacement Sensodrive ECU as the old one had some damage to the casing but still worked. Forgot about having to stump up the insurance excess to the repairer before the keys were handed over - ooops. Paid by plastic. All settings (radio, clock etc) need adjusting as battery was disconnected during repair but shouldn't take long but I'll have to get the handbook out to refresh my memory!!
