Trev. Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 I own a VTR has anyone had probs with brake squeal when reversing? Quote
scottp Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 I've got a C3 SX HDi, had the brake squeal. get it to the garage and get them to sort it mate. should be free, but if they say the discs need cleaning u could be looking at about £40. my rear brakes started to bind on and that is how much it cost me, tried to blast em clean with a pressure washer, worked a bit but ended up getting it done properly. there used to be a post about this issue, think it was something like something on the brake hadn't been secured properly. hertsnminds Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 More likey to be the brake pad material and the fact that the rear pads/discs hardly ever get used. Make a point of braking really hard every so often, when it is safe to do so. Also brake hard when reversing as this helps to clean the discs. If you want to cure the squeal forever you will have to change the pads to a kevlar based material. Something along the lines of the following brands Greenstuff, Tarox or Red Dot. This also reduces the amount of brake dust you get on your wheels. If you do change the pads you will have to adjust to the fact that kevlar pads work better the hotter they get. Trev. Posted September 10, 2004 Author Posted September 10, 2004 Thanks ....The car is still under warranty....wonder if i can blag some kevlar pads? :P Quote
hertsnminds Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 If you do a search on "why do my brakes squeal" on Yahoo you get sites like those below http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/Brake_Pad_FAQ.htm...%20Squeal%20FAQhttp://www.mtbr.com/techtalks/brakes/brakesfaq.shtmlhttp://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php?id=157 With various reasons for brake squeal And if you are looking for kevlar based pads try the EBC web site... http://www.ebcbrakes.com/QandA.htmlhttp://www.ebcbrakes.com/Automotive.html The Greenstuff pads provide the best balance between stopping power and pad life for normal road conditions I suspect the only type of Citroen with kevlar based pads as standard would be a rally car so blagging some might be a bit tough. Trev. Posted September 25, 2004 Author Posted September 25, 2004 I tried the jumping on the brakes when going backwards idea .......and it made a big improvement. Many Thanks oh and.....my nodding dog shot off the rear parcel shelf and put my eye out  Quote
Ceggy Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Need a retaining clip on the caliper. The standard brakes just aren't good enough. The fix is filtering down to all Cit dealers throughout the country and is doable under the warranty. Quote
