Sorry you are right my mistake.

The Picasso 1.6i is £165 a year.

The Goverment expect people to use public transport but its so crap its better to use a car.

Im moving house soon further out of Manchester. 2 buses just to get to Manchester. I dont think thats gonna happen. I'll be taking the car. Simply because it does not work out much cheaper getting a bus than taking my car and paying for parking.

A 4 week ticket for the metro for me is £82.10 but i also need a bus to get me to the station so add another £40 on top of that. So using public transport would cost me £120 a month to get to manchester i fill it up with £50 of fuel every 3 weeks and parking if you know the right places is free or £2 a day.

When I lived in that neck of the woods I lived in Shaw and worked in Trafford Park. Try that on public transport!

Where I am now it takes me 30 minutes to drive 30 miles, mostly on the A1, to get to and from work. I start at 7.30, morning or evening, depending on shifts. There is no bus to the train station so I'd have a mile walk to start with (no point driving to the station as there is not enough parking). Then a train journey followed by a bus and another nice long walk. Going home is the same. Working a 12 hour shift the last thing I want is 2 long walks and hanging around for trains and buses - I may as well stay at work!!!!

Sundays are even better, when the homeward train doesn't stop at the local station - I have to stay on it for another 20 minutes, get off and wait an hour to get another train back the opposite way!!!!

if I was to take the bus to work every morning it would cost me £4.90 a day. The bus should take 30 minutes to the stop I need but takes 40-45. It would be a 10 minute walk to get on and another 30 minute walk to actually get to work. So tha takes us to 3 hours a day for a 16 mile round trip.

Bus fares per month-£98

hours travelled-60

Petrol per month-£43

hours travelled-30(in peak times)

use public transprt they say!! Mr. Blair you use public transport and see how good it really is.

Yeah it's alright ministers talking up Public transport etc, but I notice they do tend to go first class. Try economy for once !!! Before I passed my test I used to get the bus to my current job - 2 buses and it was then £3.50 a day. The journey was usually around 45 minutes to travel a total of 6 miles to work, and then god knows how long on the journey home because of congestion. I have sometimes been waiting on a long Cardiff road that is a mile long for upto an hour and a bit in a damp, cold bus on a winters night. Not fun. The car gets me to the particular road before the congestion starts so I usually sail through. I know which method I prefer. ;)

It all depends upon your journey.

Centre of Edinburgh to the centre of London.

Train - Waverley to Kings Cross, time = 4.5 hours, cost anything between £27 - £300 return depends how many years in advance you book and the time you want to travel.

You can plug in a computer or DVD player watch a movie of your choice or surf the internet and you don't need to stop your journey to go to the toilet

Plane - 20 mins to the airport, arrive 2 hours early to pass security, flight time 1 hour, train from airport to middle of London 1 - 1.5 hours. Costs bus to airport £1, Flight £30 - £300 depending on when booked and time of travel, train fare from airport to middle of London. Not allowed to use electronic equipment on board.

Driving - takes about 8 hours if there are no hold ups, maybe 1 tank of fuel (depends if diesel or petrol), congestion charge, car tax, insurance, wear and tear on car, proportion of servicing costs. Then there is car parking on top.

Can only play with car gadgets and number plate bingo

thats quite an exceptional journey though...its not everyday you would undertake such a trip and for most at all. Most of us use our cars for the commute to and from work and for a blast at the weekends clocking up normally no more than 15-20K a year. Like I stated before if I was to use public transprt instead of the car it would double the cost and time and that double cost easily covers road tax making public transport a useless option for me now.

Dont get me wrong, a lot of people can and do use public transport but personally it is not really an option anymore. There used to be 2 bus services that I could use but one has stopped running so the other comapny has ramped up prices as there is now no choice in the matter. The bus is good if you are going for a night on the bevvies.

Lets be honest for a moment, how many people are going to notice a few extra quid on car tax??. I think it is £40 increase for the VTS's. People who have VTS's will probably have a bit more spare cash than people such as myself so £40 over the course of a year isnt going to make them consider selling the car. If the government want to make a killing on tax they should target supercars and larger 4x4's (range rovers and big monsters like that) as people who can afford to pay 75K plus on a car will not miss £500 for tax. I was having this discussion with a chap I know who has a bit of a collection of supercars and he was saying that £500 tax will barely be noticable when you take other costs of ownership into account.

HI Guys. I have just heard from the DVLA. They say that the website I used to check how much tax I should pay is for guidance only!!! To get my car regrouped I need a letter from Citroen saying exactly what CO2 emmision my car has!!! Can anyone tell me what tax group their 2.0 litre VTR+ is in please. Maybe I can show them that mine is in a higher group by mistake ( they say it is in group F). Thanks

Hi Guys, I know the 2.0 litre petrol isn't the most popular engine choice , but someone else must have bought one. I cant be the only one here! Please give me some feedback. ;)

I contacted my local dealer and they confirmed that it is 182 g/km and are sending me a letter to pass on to the DVLA.

Didn't the letter work then??

Thanks wozza i forgot about Mike's post.

They replied to my letter by saying that I must now get a letter from the manufacturers stating the CO2 emmision. The letter I sent from the dealer could not have been good emough for some reason

Dont know why they asked for it in the first place!!!
