C4VTS Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 On the rear of my RD4 head unit there are 2 block connectors; 1 is white and 1 is black - they look similar but are not interchangeable as they are mirrored in terms of how they connect to the head unit connector. The black one is solely for the cd changer, the white one is for auxiliary input - in my case, the white one is being used by the hands free kit, using pins 4, 10 & 11 (which is therefore, aux 1). The MP3 cable (9706AG) has to be wired to the same pins if it is to use aux 1 - therefore it is not compatible if the factory fit bluetooth is installed. I have tried also, to plug the MP3 cable into the socket occupied by the black connector but with this configuration the 'source' button simply doesn't find a connected cd changer so it doesn't work at all... I think I am right in saying that if you have a cd changer and no bluetooth, then the port for the MP3 cable is vacant and it can be used and enabled - if you don't have a cd changer then the same applies as the MP3 cable will only fit into one of the ports. However, if you have factory fitted bluetooth, then the MP3 cable option is a complete no-no, whether you have a cd changer or not! Also, the 'aux 2' option doesn't, I believe, exist on RD4 head units - there is only 1 aux input, as stated above. I am well gutted about this, to be honest... I have obtained the factory bluetooth unit and microphone which I plan to install myself. Does anyone know if I can have the extra bluetooth controls added to my steering wheel? These are the voice recognition button (12) and Directory Menu(11) on bottom left. If not, can someone with factory bluetooth confirm these functions can be accessed via the RD4 radio menu button. How do I remove the roof console, so I can fit the factory handsfree microphone? Also where is the bluetooth control box fitted in the C4? Is it tucked in behind the radio? Quote
Rich_Eason Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Before you go through pulling out all the trim and stuff and go through all the heartache of wiring it in, I would double check that your phone actually permits the functions of these buttons through Bluetooth. Not all phones permit control with the stering wheel buttons through Bluetooth. I know for a fact that many Samsung models dont actually have any control via the steering wheel. I would imagine the buttons have the wires and are just waiting for the box of bits to be added. Quote
Mike5483 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Its either a new switch pack for that quadrant, or a completely new hub. Id look into this first, as it could be very expensive. The light unit just pulls out of the roof, its held in place by 2 metal clips. Quote
C4VTS Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 The bluetooth kit also has 3 or 4 connection wires to the BSI as well as the RD4, so it's not as straight forward as I first thought. Also my Citroen technician did not feel confident enough to attempt to fit, so the Bluetooth module and mic. is going on eBay sometime soon. Quote

Once you pay for the factory bluetooth unit and then add labour, you're better off just buying a bluetooth headset from your mobile phone dealer. That's what I did - I just leave the headset in the car. It looks daft wearing it about in public, but it's fine in the car. In Australia they retail for about $100 for a name brand. Which would be about 40 pounds in the UK. Though ebay always has them at 50% less. To me, the only thing worth retrofitting is the MP3 auxiliary input because using FM transmitters with iPods is just shitty, especially if you live in dense urban areas where most of the radio spectrum is used up. Also, it's a very elegant solution compared to replacing the headunit which destroys the flair of the interior. Quote
wozza Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 There are after market headunits avilable which look almost stanard. But most people changing there headunit want one for improved Sound Quality what I wanted not so arsed about how it looks hence all the loose wires in my boot. But becker makes some units which look like they came with the car. Nakamichi do similar styled units and both of those units are some of the best you can buy. Quote

I will have a look at the posted link. My main issue was not knowing how the car is dismantled in order to get to the BSI, and also would like to know how the climate control unit comes out. Looks as though it has a retaining clip. Quote
jimbobfruitbat Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 The dealer I bought from fitted a Parrot bluetooth kit, as the car was already in the country when I bought it new and thus was too late for the factory-fit version. I can recommend it, although the voice-recognition isn't that great: http://www.parrot.biz/uk/products/ck3100-lcd Works fine with my Nokia. Quote
