edhellaby Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hi, Just purchased a 54 C4 1.4 VT coupe in black, love the car to bits but after 1 week had a couple of issues!!!! 1. Squealing brakes, she is going in tonight to have that seen to!2. The car seems to chake lightly when in gear with my clutch depressed, i.e. at traffic lights? Anyone else have this/3. Can be quite tricky to get into 1st and reverse when stationary. It only has 8,000 on the clock. Cheers Ed Quote

Cheers Ed Hi, I had a 1.4VT before upgrading to a 2.0 VTS and both do point 2 (The car seems to chake lightly when in gear with my clutch depressed, i.e. at traffic lights) I don't know why ive not posted this here as a question myself. I figured since both cars have done it its normal? it does shake quite a bit though - its annoying. More so in the diesel... Quote
Cromlech Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I have had a 2.0 HDi since December and have in the past noticed that, but think I kinda got used to it. I just put it down to some torque (or something) transferring into the structure of the car. Although, as I am not an engineer, this assumption could be wildly inaccurate. Quote

Yeah i feel like the car is itching to get away from the lights with plenty of torque, lke there a 3.0 litre lump under the bonnet, but off a 1.4 i find it suprising. But hey at least every one else has it! And the gearbox isnt about to fall out. Dont suppose u had the probs with the tuff gears? idlerobbo Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I noticed a difference between the gearboxes on a petrol and diesel (seemed tougher on the diesel) but didn’t notice it when I had the 1.4 VT… Yeah the juddering is annoying… wonder if anyone has had it looked at. I mentioned it when it went in once . As usual “no fault found” came back though… Interestingly it seems worse when im on a gradient… Quote
Mike5483 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Your gearbox will free up, give it a few more miles, say 10,000 or so, let it wear and bed in properly. I had a 1.4 C4 as a courtesy car and the difference between the clutches in that and mine were amazing. The 1.4's clutch was a lot, lot lighter and smoother. I guess the bigger engines have a heavier, meatier clutch. Might also be made heavier to make it seem more sporty. Quote
lab44 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Shaking thing happens on mine too (petrol 1.6). Seems a common problem. Is worse if you put the air con on or anything that loads the engine. Gearbox will probably loosen up a bit. What car did you drive before? The C4 gearbox is typically French (i.e not that good) though i've never had any problems with it. If you have driven a Ford though you will notice the difference with the gearbox. Quote
Welshguy Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 But hey at least every one else has it! And the gearbox isnt about to fall out. Lucky you! :D :D :P You dont suffer from the knocking problem that I get in my 1.4VT then? Mine and Stuey's cars seem to have this problem. As for the shaking problem..can't say my VT suffers from that...although when the engine is cold the car does tend to mildly shake as the revs are settling. Quote
Stuey Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 mine does wobble a bit when it is cold, but I think it is probably something to do with the engine mounting bolts buffers... Quote

Well I had a corsa before, and the gearbox on that was a dog, but then the clutch was clinging on for dear life! Thankfully i do not have the knocking problem. Mine just seems to shake all the time at lights, no matter how warm the engine is. Really feels like the cars trying to pull away, quite strange!!!! Quote
idlerobbo Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 im due for a 20k service so when it goes in ill mention it and give you the feedback here.. Quote
C4VTS Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 The diesels vibrate sometimes. I am told this is due to the new lean burn engines, reduced CO2. Quote
wozza Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Mine does it occasionally as well. Not always there though or i just dont notice it much tends to be a lot of things vibrating in my car with the sub anyway. Quote
