hertsnminds Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Just got my furthest trip from 1 tank of fuel. The car has just clocked up 22,000 miles and I managed to get 664.2 miles from 54.62 litres (12.01 gallons) of diesel  . That's about 55MPG (car trip said 53.4MPG) from mixed motorway and town driving. The car even claimed there was another 35-40 miles left in the tank. That's from a 5 door 1.6 HDi 110. Wonder if it will break the 700 mile barrier one day? IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
Rich_Eason Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Wonder if it will break the 700 mile barrier one day? Well done...perhaps with a tail wind all accesories switched off and no luggage, it may be possible! Make for a pretty dull and uncomfortable journey though! Quote
hertsnminds Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 all accesories switched off and no luggageClimate control was on all the time, normal use of washer, wipers, lights etc. Radio on most of the time and a GPS plugged into the lighter socket most of the time. Used the cruise control for most of the mortorway miles but apart from that no special treatment. Driving style the same as the 21k odd miles previous to the last tank. The only thing I can think of that was different was to use Shell instead of supermarket diesel. If that has given me 50 - 100 miles more from a tank I might stick to the branded stuff. Just filled up at Tesco so let's see how far this tank gets me. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
toastyhamster Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 <looks grimly at right foot> I'm getting less than 300 miles to a tank of my *petrol* VTR+ I've stopped clicking the ful computer now - it's too depressing! Quote
hertsnminds Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 I'm getting less than 300 miles to a tank of my *petrol* VTR+ Maybe you should start another thread titled, Shortest distance on 1 tank, and see who wins that one  IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
wozza Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 320 - 350 seems average on my 1.6. When its mixed with some motorway driving it jumps to 400+ miles. Quote
C4VTS Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I never drive to be economical, just don't see any point. If you are gonna drive slowly, you might just as well have a Nissan micra. Quote
philstott1983 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I usually just potter around town and too and from work without that much motor way miles. The 1.6 petrol (hatch) has only done 2750 miles, and my mpg is about 28. Will this improve as i do more miles or is it always going to be low because if the way i drive, without opening the car out too often? Quote
wozza Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 It starts getting better after around 10,000miles 28mpg is fairly normal though. Especially aroun town think Citroen list it around that for urban consumption. Quote
BigJohnD Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Just got my furthest trip from 1 tank of fuel. The car has just clocked up 22,000 miles and I managed to get 664.2 miles from 54.62 litres (12.01 gallons) of diesel :D . That's about 55MPG (car trip said 53.4MPG) from mixed motorway and town driving. The car even claimed there was another 35-40 miles left in the tank. That's from a 5 door 1.6 HDi 110. Wonder if it will break the 700 mile barrier one day? :) IanBlack 55 VTR+That's very good indeed. Nice one! I can't quite match that, but if the fuel guage was more accurate at indicating what was left in the tank as it approached empty, I'd be going for over 600 miles per tankful. Last week, the guage was indicating 17 miles remaining after travelling about 570 miles since filling up, but I could only put in 52 litres, suggesting there was still about 8 litres in the tank. If I had ignored the guage and gone on my own calculations, I could have made about 640 miles. Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 My C3 Petrol Sensodrive is still going well on Fuel. I had 140 mies out of a quater of a tank the other day. My guadge as 6 bars. I filled up when showing 4 bars and it took £15 to fill it up to the rim. Quote
Welshguy Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I tend to put £20 in at a time, and get around 220 miles on the Citroen computer. However the actual mileage is a lot less than that I suspect. £20 does me for a week's worth of driving though  I tend to drive sensibly, but I get the itch to put my foot down sometimes. Particularly so if I'm held up by slow drivers.. Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 My C3 is still good on fuel and I do over take slow driver's alot. But I do drive sensible aswell. I never use the Air Con. And I never drive the car in Automatic Mode. I used to when I first had it but I use the paddles by the wheel now. Quote
lee_marshuk Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Despite one or two slurs from untrustworthy sources (*read* Stuey & Wozza) about the state of my driving, with my sedate manner of ambling slowly around I'm pleased to say I'm now getting around 500 miles out of a tank, with a ratio of about 75% motorway/high speed 25% town at the moment. wozza Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Untrustworthy sources, You say that but last time i was following you down in Birmingham you buggered off at 90 and left me standing going WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO BE GOING! While your 9 cars in front. Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 My Brothers C3 is still drinking fuel. You got a job to get it to 30mpg. I did manage to get it to 30mpg the other day. It bloody played up the 2 days I drove it though. It was stuck in 1st gear then wouldn't start for 5mins. To be honest what else is new its been like that since week one. He has given up taking it back to the dealer. I think he wished he had the C4 1.6i 16v SX Auto I suggested. Next time I said if you want another Citroen go for the C4 1.6HDi EGS VTR+ 5 Dr. Wish I could have one of those. There again I like the C3 I got. Quote
Blanchie Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Try using the M42 and some of the local roads everyday! :P , lots of constant 50-60Mph communiting.Average seems to be 720 from the tank, 62mpg (trip computer) 60.5mpg (manual calc), with best i've seen 72mpg from my 1.6Hdi VTR (certaintly helps running 30% Bio diesel ;) )Cheers. Blanchie Quote
Cromlech Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 My 2.0HDi gets about 530-540 ish, out of a tank, with some left in there. My granny style driving and daily up and down the A34 help to keep that up, but thought it should be a little better than that. I say granny style, but I cruise at 70. Unfortunately, on the A34 this makes me the slowest on the road, excluding HGV's. Very interested in the use of bio-diesel, might investigate that. Quote
lee_marshuk Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Untrustworthy sources, You say that but last time i was following you down in Birmingham you buggered off at 90 and left me standing going WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO BE GOING! While your 9 cars in front. *Whistles, innocently* Well, you got there, the same place I was going, at around the same time, what more do you want???? ....and to be fair you were the one wanting to see me open it up and see what it could do! #AmendmentDid not do 90, Wozza really means 70. I don't exceed national speed limits nor do I condone those who do. Quote
Guest GarthyB Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Just a comment really.....this will probably raise a few greying bushy eyebrows! I've noticed a few replies to this thread that refer to A/C being switched off to aid MPG figures, which raises the question...Airconditioning on or off.....the great debate......does it really effect your MPG? Discuss..... My personal opinion...No! Modern A/C compressor pumps draw very little power from the engine and as such don't effect the fuel consumption. Most cars are designed to run the A/C continuosly and have a button to switch it off, not on!I'm sure in the early 80's when A/C first started to be more common the A/C compressors needed the power of a small village to work effectively and the engine would almost stall if you turned it on at the traffic lights! Modern pumps are more effecient and smaller than those fitted to older cars. I'm sure that all but the smallest engined cars in the Citroen range would feel no ill effects to running with A/C on, either power or MPG figures. If you never switch it on, it probably won't work when you do decide to turn it on. The compressor seals dry out and refrigerant leaks, rendering a costly repair for a recharge of the system. Summer is coming, don't cut off your nose to spite your face on this one............put your A/C on it will keep you cool, you'll be less likely to get road rage...and it won't effect your pocket! I've not personally had my C4 long enough to give a figure for 1 tank...I never got the chance to fill it up again before it had to go in for repairs! Ironically for a fault on the A/C system. Quote
C4VTS Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Aircon on or off makes very little difference to MPG on my 2.0 HDi. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I do feel a drop in power on my 1.6hdi with the aircon on, but as I don't pay for the car or the fuel I have it on most of the time. Quote
wozza Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Dont notice much difference with my 1.6 with it on or off and consumption is about the same. Seems ot get around 27 - 31mpg. To be honest I've noticed more of a drop in power with the temperatures getting warmer. Quote
BigJohnD Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Wonder if it will break the 700 mile barrier one day? :lol:I almost got 700 miles from a tankful over Easter. I did a lot of motorway driving, (Liverpool - Hull - Milton Keynes -Manchester - Liverpool) and with 672 miles travelled, an estimated 34 miles remaining with the guage on empty and the low fuel light on, I chickened out when I saw ASDA in Hunt's Cross selling diesel at 91.9p/litre. It took 57 litres to fill the tank, meaning there was about 3 litres remaining, so I could have probably done it. Another time perhaps… Quote
c4coupe1 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Average MPG on my 1.6HDi 92hp is 57-60. In the past I have managed 701 miles on a full tank, that was with steady driving, deliberately trying to get the most mpg. Only when driven hard will the mpg fall into the low 50's/high 40's. The excellent economy makes up for the slight lack of power the 92hp version has. Quote
