georgiebuzz Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 . Hi, I have just agreed to buy a Citroen Pluriel which I pick up mid October (just in time for autumn). Reading the topics on this forum people don’t have many positive things to say. ARE THEY AS BAD AND UNRELIABLE AS IT SEEMS. At the moment all I will loose is my deposit Quote
pork_pie Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Some are good. Most are rotten to the core. Yours might be the exception to the rule but if something wrong happens to your Pluriel, be prepared for numerous visits to the dealership and months of frustration. The postings here speak for themselves. Its your call. If I was in your situation..........I'd be prepared to lose the deposit and get something else that is better built. Quote
Richard Fairhurst Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004
The postings here speak for themselves.
But they don't necessarily give a complete picture. If you've had a bad experience with your Pluriel, you're more likely to search the web for fellow-sufferers, and post your experiences on the board, than if you're 100% satisfied. Our Pluriel has performed very reliably despite being driven 120 miles a day, a good proportion of which is on hilly country roads. It's a great car, and I wouldn't swap it for anything else (well... perhaps a Beachcomber :P ). Judging by the fast-growing number I'm seeing on the roads and the cheery waves we exchange, I suspect I'm not alone. Quote
lesw Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 We loved ours and it was such a shame that it had so many problems that we had our money back after 10 months. I agree there are a lot about but that may be because of the low price rather than whether they have problems or not. You may be willing to forgive the poor quality at the lower price. I was a bit tempted by this one on ebay though......at that price I could have foregone the warranty and the hassle with a main dealer and had any problems fixed by an independent. Maverick Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 As I have said before, it is a great car let down by dealers who do not know any better, and a manufacturer who does not give a *$£%! I love my little car, and there are no other 4 seater convertibles in my price range. Yes, it has it's faults, yes the dealer and the company don't know their roof bars from their tail gates and there are some niggles that you just have to learn to live with. Most of these are either fixable (in theory) or else things that Citroen themselves will tell you "well it was like that when you took ownership, you should have reported it then" and let you get on with it! Contact me off line for my personal gripes, otherwise just learn to live with it, and bite the bullet on the cash you will lose in depreciation. HTH, Mav Quote
dobbin Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I still like my pluriel, despite the fact that I have spent 10 months trying to get it fixed and I am currently trying to get a refund/replacement. It is a great little car when the sun shines, (and sometimes when it rains if you're lucky). My main piece of advice would be to GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING as this will help you in the future if things go wrong. With my next car, I will follow up every phone call/service/repair/recall/fix/warranty work etc with a letter asking for documentation of what has been done to my car. This is so that I have a confirmed record of what has happened rather than verbal promises from a service technician that "the seals have been fixed" when they have not. Good luck, I hope your Pluriel is better than mine. Quote
eeijc Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I do agree with Richard that this forum will attract postings from people who have had bad experiences and who understandably wish to share them with others. It probably distorts the true picture to some extent. I am perfectly happy with my Pluriel (from the Hartwell Citroen garage here in Bristol). I doubt that it would stay dry if attacked with a pressure washer, but then again I doubt that many convertibles would. My requirement is that is stays dry (inside) on the motorway in almost zero visibility in torrential rain - and this it does. I think a prospective buyer should inspect their new car very carefully before handing over the balance of the purchase price - I was given the oportunity to do this - check that all the seals seem to fit, that the windows line up nicely and that there is good firm contact between the seals and the side windows. Check all the electrical gadgets too and that the roof slides freely and fairly quietly. Proceed with caution (I put some of the balance on a credit card to give a little extra protection), but the good 'uns are terrific little cars. Ian. Quote

hertsnminds Posted September 23, 2004 Posted September 23, 2004 Given that Citroen claim to have made around 10,000 Pluriel in 2003 and have the capacity to make up to 25,000 a year you are seeing a small proportion of owners comments on this forum. It is possible to find bad examples of any type of car, you just have to search the internet with a car name and the word FAULT or PROBLEM. As has been mentioned it is not so much that things can go wrong but how you are treated by your dealer when they do. As more are sold and start to be serviced (remember not many have reached 20,000 miles yet) then the dealers should become better. There is NO other 4 seater soft top that can carry a garden shed and you will never mistake a Pluriel for any other car on the road. So if you are looking for a versatile car with loads of character you have made the right choice. Ian Orange 03 Senso Quote
rhtankman Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Hi Guys Totally agree with the majority of reports in this Forum I am in contact with 9 people in the UK, all have Pluriels and we regularly talk to each other about our car of choice. Apart from a minor problem with my CD player, I have had no problem with my car (1.6i senso) whatsoever, and only one of my friends has had a major problem with theirs (Gearbox out of synch with computer) which was sorted out immediately by their dealership. The Pluriel is a great car to drive, with or without arches, it still commands stares from passer-bys and is relatively easy to maintain. The idea of the car is fun and that is all I have had since getting it. My comments in the 'Pluriel - Brothers and Sisters' topic hold true as well, and I look forward to the day I can live in Crete and take my arches off permanently Be Different, Drive Pluriel Regards  Quote
