welshys90 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 hey i have a citroen C4 with the JBL speaker package and i feel its not giving me enough oomph is it possible to upgrade the speakers? Quote
wozza Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Course it is. But what parts are you wanting to upgrade? Quote
lee_marshuk Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I know this is a little random...but in the true spirit of our forum.....I'm sure this isn't the first guy now who's said their JBL doesn't seem to give them much ooomph - and you remember I read out those settings off my RT3 concerning stuff like the sub etc, which you don't seem to have if you don't have the Navi Kit....just a thought.....wonder if some parts of the RD4 radio don't work with all the JBL kit...or something? welshys90 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 i think i want to change the head unit but i would like to keep my steering wheel controls so am not sure.. and i think i need another 8 inch sub cause ones not enough and i dont wanna clog my boot up Quote
C4VTS Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 You can now buy the CAN-BUS steering wheel adapters for many makes such as Pioneer, Blaupunkt, Becker, but they do cost about £90 for some of them, and they don't offer the parking warning signal if you have that fitted on your C4. Quote
wozza Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Well if you want another sub it means your gonna need a box and an amp or you can get an active sub still take up some boot room though. Depends how often you need the boot. I can still get the weekly shopping for 3 of us and a wheelchair in my car at the same time with someone on the back seat with my system in. So not that bad. And the size of the sub makes a difference as well it depends what kind of music you listen to as to what would suit you best. Smaller subs are good for a nice punchy style of bass. Use an 8" one in my home stereo but actually prefer the sound of the 12" in my car for the music I listen to which tends to be mainly rock / Metal where theres lots of bass guitar the 12" gives it a nicer warmer sound I find. Can fit them so they dont take up much room though just depends if you want to put some effort into creating a box or not. Could fit a 12 in the side of the boot and because it goes back a fair way you could get away with a rather slim box which would take up very little room. There also small subs you can get you can fit under your seats up front. Theres so many different things to look at id recommend going and having a listen to what you like as just buying something for the sake of it isn't a great thing to do if you find out you dislike the sound it produces. Head unit will more than likely mean your current system will need to be changed a bit. Again best off going and asking someone to have a look at it for you i have not seen how the standard system is integrated to be able to advise you of what you would or wouldn't lose. Sometimes fitting a new head unit means the stock sub etc stops working. Quote
Welshguy Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Nobody has mentioned this yet so I'll add my 2cents - have you thought about sound deadening? In my opinion the C4 is pretty well screwed together, but some extra sound deadening around the speakers and subwoofer will keep the rattles away and direct the bass back into the car, giving you a "harder" bass note. Quite cheap and if you know how to take panels off etc you can do it yourself! Quote
idlerobbo Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I want this doing (sound deadening), is that the correct term if I went to a car audio place? Don’t want to sound like I have no idea what im on about (which I don’t really!). How much is ‘not much’? Quote
wozza Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 To do it properly expensive. More than a few hundred anyway. To do it good enough for most people...around £80 upwards id say to do the doors fully and run a lining in the boot. Will need to cover the boot floor in the stuff and anywhere else you can easily get to The kits which are like £15 for the doors for a couple small bits arent worth it. Better off getting a massive roll and covering the doors properly meaning inner section and outer section of the door and if possible more than 1 layer. Quote

No. I had a Pioneer AVICS sat-nav and CD changer fitted to my shiny new VTR+ Coupe. This had JBL and rear parking sensors and they (the sensors, that is) all still work. But they are loud and can't be turned down. Pardon!? The CAN-BUS adaptor retains all other remote functions, the only loss is the radio station name. Quote
idlerobbo Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 thats fantastc news! I am surprised how i use the volume buttons on my steering wheel more than anything, i tried to not use it for a journey and failed miserably... Can you provide specific parts that you bought jeremy? Quote
Welshguy Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 @ Jeremy You say you HAD a Pioneer AVIC? Do you still have it? If yes, have you got pictures? I'd love to see what it looks like in a C4, and also to hear of your experiences with the unit. Quote
welshys90 Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 anyone know if a ALPINE CDE - 9850ri would work with the CAN-BUS and where can u buy them? Quote
wozza Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 It'll work just wont have the steering controls without an adaptor which I think is £90 or there abouts. They work fine in the car though and there good units sound nice then again most alpines do. Quote

Which CAN-BUS adapter did you use? Model Number? Quote
Welshguy Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Are you sure about this? How is the reverse warning audio routed with the adapter? Which CAN-BUS adapter did you use? Model Number? Does it have a standard ISO connection? As long as it does it will work, but as Wozza says you will probably lose the steering wheel controls unless you are willing to fork out the money for an adaptor. Both myself and Wozza have Alpine units. In my case (can't comment for Wozza) I needed an ISO to Canbus adaptor, but these are relatively cheap - I think I paid £15.00 odd for mine. Quote
jeremytaylor Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Are you sure about this? How is the reverse warning audio routed with the adapter? Which CAN-BUS adapter did you use? Model Number? This is interesting, because before I bought the C4 I knew I wanted to fit an AVICS (we've got one in wifey's C8 too). I asked at car stereo shops who said there was no adaptor listed for the C4, so I would lose the remote functions, which I could just about live with. So when I bought my C4, I was surprised when my dealer (Bollingmores in Woking) said they could fit it, with an adaptor, and retain all the remote functions. To be honest, I was half expecting a phone call to say "er, it's not fully working". But no, it's fine. They did the fitting, so I don't know the part number, but I suspect it is the same part as for a 307. Like I say, the only thing missing is displaying the radio name. All other menu functions for the computer and volume buttons, etc. on the wheel work. The unit replaces the standard head unit and the screen folds out so that it is just below where the Citroen Navi-drive screen would be. You can still fully see the clock/date screen but can't access the drawer below this screen with the Navi-drive screen out. It's also a bluetooth phone unit, touch screen, very slick! I have photos but have never been able to post on forums, lol. It says CGI Error! The reverse sensor sound comes from the rear speakers (is this how the sound normally comes?) Quote

C4VTS Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 The only CAN-BUS adapter I have seen advertised with reverse audio warning uses a cheap buzzer type device and they want £100 extra, making it nearly £200 just for the CAN-BUS adapter with reverse warning. They can get stuffed. :o Quote
