Hi - Have a rattle that starts after around half to one hours running. Happens on roads surfaced with coarser chippings (common here!) Have tried various dodges including passenger applying hand-pressure to areas of dash whilst running. Dealer says its relays behind dash - but thats tosh as resonance stops on entering smoother sufaces. VERY irritating!!
Anyone experienced this and/or found cure?????

Hi again - have read some of your enties herein and thought I'd mention some further problems (apart from frustrating buzz/creaky dashboard)

My SX 1.4 Sensodrive (mileage to date 1200) developed a 'kangaroo clutch' (or as some wag put it 'a leapfrog !) Apparently condensate from air-con pipes was entering the clutch actuator wiring/connectors - seemed to cure problem for a few hundred miles but have now experienced 'clutch-judder' or perhaps its clutch engaging/disengaging rapidly in quick succession on pulling away????

Further, the main lcd display is going kaput, average mpg is permanently stuck at 40.3mpg (despite some recent driving in terrain using lots of low gear work!) and average mph is stuck permanently at 6 mph!! What next I wonder????

Problem is that the dashboard rattle doesn't appear with car 'cold' and the clut :P ch judder is intermittant and 'wears off' and probably wont show if presented for dealers inspection!!!

Hi dave, i'm glad someone else has mentioned the Average mpg and Ave. mph readouts, I thought it was just me!

got it temp. fixed by getting a software upgrade, but after 400 miles or so the Ave mph resets from 40 or so to 0 then crawls up to maybe 6 or 7 over the next 500 miles, strange considering 90% of those miles are done at motorway speeds.
also my Av mpg was going steady at 57.2 - 60.0 then all of a sudden it jumps to 99.9!! would be nice if it were true!

again this was fixed by a software reinstall at the garage, while it was in i got a 1.4 LX petrol as a courtesy car, clicked through its trip comp and found exactly the same thing! Argghhhh! if the garage can't fix their own cars why try and fix mine!

sorry about the rant but it just gets annoying clicking through the trip and knowing it's reading incorrectly, and if that is wrong what else might be?

You can reset the Average MPG and MPH anytime you want to, that way you know what they are averaging over. If you NEVER reset them they average over the total miles the car has done.

For a step by step guide see this web site
http://www.c3pluriel.org.uk/

and look in the TIPS section.

I have a GPS that tells me my average MPH over a journey and when it is compared to the cars figures the GPS give me between 5 and 10 mph higher averages.

Even after a reset just before a motorway trip the average MPH never seems to go above 60 mph.

It is a shame that Citroen decided not to include any information about the average functions in the owners handbook.

Hi Scott & Ian

Many thanks for your info! I'll visit the site you mentioned Ian and 'ave a go' at my trip set-up.

Now - if only I could sort the B****y rattle from the dashboard!!!! It fairly puts your teeth on edge! I've applied rubber sealing strips to the lower glove box lid and wrapped elastic bands around the rattly air-con valve in that box ( plus having the missus performing contortions applying hand pressure to all parts of the dash whilst on the move!) but no improvement. It's obviously temperture and road surface caused as it starts after 30-60 minutes and stops when re-entering smoother road surfaces so it 's not relays as suggested by dealer. Ah well!

How about this for curing the rattle...

Record the sound on to tape or CD then play it over and over on a very loud ghetto blaster in the dealers showroom until they tell you it is NOT annoying or they fix it!

Good idea Ian!! I think I'll kidnap the salesperson and take for a long ride over Avons lousy roads - they use coarse chippings on road surfaces here which gives terrific road roar - guess I'll either have to move or change car!

Have zero'd average mpg & mph - I assume one has to also reset trip mileage indicator to get correct averages?

You do not need to zero the trip computer when you zero the averages. I think the averages are zeroed against where the odometer is. But it is obviously easier for you to know how many miles things are averaging over if you do.

Why not ask the dealers service manager if he would like you to train his mechanics in how to use the trip computer/average functions of the whole C3 and C2 range (they all work the same way).

I would charge them twice the hourly rate that they charge for labour as you will be the skilled technician!

I would consider using a different dealer to fix your next problem (and for any servicing work). Any Citroen delaer can be used for a warranty repair, it is only if one dealer has started to fix something that another will not take it on.

Thanks very much Ian - only travelled few miles this am but displays are now working !!

My dealer is a fairly large affair but, as is always the case, there are good and bad technicians (

I note your remarks concerning alternative dealers for service etc., and will bear that in mind for future problems. Thanks again!

Regards - Dave :)
