Key / Anti Theft Trouble

hey folks,

 

i have a problem with my anti theft device, when i use my main key my car doesnt start and i get the message "anti theft faulty". the key still unlocks and locks the doors and turns the lights on/off but it just wont start my car.

i tried the spare key that works fine.

would i be right in presuming this is a problem with the key. am i gonna have to fork out loads for a new one? cos i'd rather just use the spare.

Id say warranty should cover that if its giving a faulty message.

If you have not damaged the key in any way, either physical or liquid damage, then the warranty should cover the fault. So if you haven't dropped your key down the toilet or beaten it with a hammer, then you should be covered. :o

does the remote locking still work form the faulty key????

yeah the remote locking still works. just wont start the car. my spare key isnt a remote one so carry both now. ha.

 

best go see the dealer and get a new one.

have you had any software updates where you haven't had your spare key with you? sounds like the key hasn't been programmed when something has been updated, same thing happened to my xsara when I bought a new key the dealer forgot to reprogram the old key but as it was the only key I had at the time they couldn't blame me as I wouldnt have been able to take the car in if I had forgotten the key as they suggested

if it had update it would have lost remote locking aswell. sounds like the chip has gone out of sync and will need recode.

i dont know about any updates, my car hasnt been in the dealers for ages now.

 

the key just stopped working one morning. i'd done about 60 miles the day before.

 

my service counter is buggered to, apparently 1750 miles over due at 10000miles.

My Brother had no end of trouble with the key on his C3 the new C2s and C3s as the C4 keys. Its funny how you didn't get 2 Remote keys. My brother did with his C3 and I had 2 with my C3. I got the old style key non flip one they are a hell alot better.

 

You should be able to get yours done under warranty.
