Guest xantiabargainbuyer Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 i recently did an oil and filter change on my 19 td and found the filter very dificult to remove, after several atempts at undoing it i resorted to my last option, spiking a screwdriver through the filter and using brute force as my filter strap wouldnt even undo it. after breaking the seal the filter eventualy came free, only to my anger to find the filter had been puttied (of miliput nature) into place, making it seal perfectly. once i removed all the remaining clay like material from the part that the seal sits against, i found many holes all around it, hence it being puttied into place. im now faced with not being able to replace the filter again as it wont seal. behind the filter where it seals against looks like an alloy ring, does anybody kno if this can be removed and replaced or can you get a whole housing that you have to replace? i know the basics but i am no mechanic. any help is greatly appreciated. Guest barney Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 On both my N reg TDs the oil filter fits onto an oil/water heat exchanger, rather than directly on to the engine block. For identification, the heat exchanger has 2 water pipes at the top. I've not had any trouble with either of mine, but the same item on my late-lamented CX Turbo 2 corroded through. I seem to recall that the CX item was held to the block by a central bolt which was visible once the filter had been removed. Presumably the Xantia item will be fastened similarly. I believe that the CX replacement cost about £60, but this was a few years ago. Quote
