howdy,

anybody out there with a coupe use a cycle carrier? i'm worried my old one wont be compatable. mainly as where it hooks on the top of the boot lid it will be hooking onto the glass not the boot frame. does anyone think this will be a problem? i dont wanna lose my rear window and 6grand worth of mountain bikes

i havnt tried it yet, gonna be doin that when i get out of work.

edit: now tried and there aint no way my current rack is goin on.

any info would be appreciated r.e. c4 coupe specific racks, roof mounted racks.

i tried lookin on c4 accesory selector but that was about as much use as a chocolate cockring.

cheers again.

What about the thule roofracks? I cant remember who it was that had them fitted on here now if you do a search in the forum might turn up something.

Interesting. It could have some uses though.

As a side note I woudl avoid the rear mounted ones on the Coupe.

Having seen one fitted to an AX (GRP Panels) loaded with two bikes and the result at the end I would highly recommend not relying on the strength of the glass as an anchor...

Just say no.

i tried my old bike rack. could not get it on the back. gonna have to invest in roof bars.

i noticed here ( http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/citroen/i...31&hl=thule ) matt mentions his bolts had rusted, i dont even have any bolts in mine. just empty holes. gonna have to get them to. ffs its all to much effort. ha. wouldnt be so bad if 2 bikes and their wheels left room in the boot for other stuff.

ah well thanks again for the info guys.

Have just fitted Thule roof bars to my C4 hatchback. They fit OK but putting the bolts into the mounting points for the first time was very hard work. Even though the car is only three months old the bolt holes were rusty. It felt as if I was tapping the threads for the first time. Ending up using some oil to get them in.

I haven't tried fitting anything yet, but I saw this flagged as a problem somewhere else, so I've packed mine with Vaseline for the time being.

Indeed, i bought the Thule roofbars (and cycle carriers) when i got the car nearly 2 years ago. When i fitted it the bolts seemed very tight, as the mounts were rusty (car at this point was a few months old). One of the Thule bolts got so hard to screw in, i tried to take it out, and it sheared off, leaving half still in the roof mount. My local dealer got it out for me (I think they drilled it out), retapped the mounts and then filled the mounting holes with grease. Since then i have kept a short bolt (M3 or M4 - cant remember) in each mount, to stop the hole rusting up again. Just been out and checked it, despite not touching it over winter, the mount is nice and free.

Roof bars are much better than rear mounted cycle carriers. You can carry ladders too, and you have full visibility out of the rearwindscreen. Just keep the mounting holes well lubricated with grease.
