Guest UKPJ360C5 Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Peter JonesCitroen C5 2.0 HDi 90Reg. 10-01-2002 Hiya, I have owned Citroen Xantia's for the last four years and since experiencing the comfort and ride of the xantia I have been dying to get my hand on a C5...... having saved my pennies I managed to get my hands on a C5 2.0 HDi 90. It needed some work doin with me getting it at a trade price ... I replaced the front brake disc and pads, n/s caliper, windscreen and gear selector..... I also had the belts and water pump changed as a precaution due to the 94k miles on the clock.... anyway all was going well and the C5 went str8 through the MOT..... thats where I hit trouble.... not 2 miles from passing the MOT the engine management light lit up on the dashboard... the car went into the dreaded LIMP MODE and I 'Limped Home'. I have had the car to Citroen and a few independants and all that the computer tells them is that the fault is 'Fuel Pressure Regulation Flow'. When I asked what is faulty everyone including Citroen tell me it could be anything other than it was a fuel pressure fault and that somewhere I was possibley loosing pressure. So far I have changed : 1. The hand primer pump and pipe...2. The Fuel Filter housing3. The Pipe from the fuel filter housing and the fuel pump. I then removed the sender/ fuel filter form the tank located under the rear seats.... all seemed well there. I have had the injectors checked and they are apparently working fine but they are checked on tickover and revving in the garage and not whilst driving on the open road..I have had the computer connected whilst on a test once and no alarm was thrown.. however the car can run for upto 40 miles without throwing the alarm but it is usually around 18-20 miles. I did notice that on the test run Cyl 1 pressure on tickover was -0.1 Bar.... the same for Cyl 3 and 4.... Cyl 2 was ticking over at +0.4 Bar. It only occured to me this morning having thought about the individual pressure that the fault may be not a loss in pressure but a pressure spike after a bit of driving and if that is the case injector on Cyl 2 was looking favorite... there is also a theory that when the garage has removed the to push on fuel pipes to access and replace the beltsthere could have been damage to one of the pipes and this may be occasionally drawing in air....... I do seem to get air floating back from the filter housing and back to the hand primer when the car has been run to normal temp then switched off. I really do hope someone out there can help me ... i adore the car but cant cope with this much more... funds wont allow. many thanks Peter Jones Quote

Guest rowls Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Theres a fuel pressure solenoid screwed in the bottom of fuel rail which can play up and there is also a fuel pressure regulator screwed onto the back of the high pressure fuel pump which can play up aswell. Quote

Guest Aboo Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 I Have a 52 reg 03 C5 HDi 110 LX saloon as a taxi now at 145K, which was diagnosed as having the same faultat 68K but it caused the engine to run on after removing the key, told id have to replace fuel injection pump at between £2500 and £3500 +VAT, being a diesel fitter to trade i suspected that was a little tale expecting me "joe public" to say OK then get me one of those, havent worked as a diesel fitter for 12 years now and not familiar with common rail diesel technology, i took to the web for help - recommendation was to put 1l of engine oil into the fuel tank, which as the HDi is an oil burner anyway, i proceeded to do, took about 3 days to properly settle down but 77K later problem hasnt returned so i saved approx £2495 - £3495+VAT. its got to be worth a try. I also noticed limp home mode in the same car limits revs to 3000, i can limp home at 85 MPH. how cool is that. my old ford escort just used to stop, could only push home at about 1.5 MPH. Quote
