BigJohnD Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I need two new front tyres on my 18 month old "55" C4 VTR+. I'm coming up to 25K miles/40K Km amd the tread on the front is almost at the the limit, with the wear indicator almost level. I guess that within a month they'll be illegal. I've got 205/50 R16 W Michelin Pilot Exaltos, as per the sticker in the driver's door jam, and have been a bit shocked by the cost of new tyres, not less than about £135 tyre, fitted, &c. at National Tyre. http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk Does any one have any suggestions for alternatives? Pirelli PZeros seem to be about the same price, but wear out faster. At the moment I'm bracing myself for buying the Exaltos. Quote
wozza Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Look on mytyres.co.uk quite a few have reviews of the tyres. Quote
Guest Ben Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Look on mytyres.co.uk quite a few have reviews of the tyres.I was quoted £90 for single rear tyre, fit and balance at the dealer (for VTS). I think this is same size as the one you mentioned above. I remember being thankful that this price was actually the cheapest quote I had (Kwik-fit, national tyres etc all over £100). This is a "mid range tyre" with a W rating - W-rating are very high ratings - is this the main factor in the high cost i wonder? Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 I had my original Michelins replaced at 35k with Pirellis which only lasted about 20k. Try.. http://www.blackcircles.com/ they are usually pretty cheap Quote

After much online searching, and taking into account the cost of delivery, new valves, fitting on alloy wheels, off-car balancing and disposal of te old tyres, http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk seems to be the cheapest. stimulator Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Visit your local library and look at the WHICH report on car tyres, for your wheel sizes etc. They are non biased to a manufacturer etc. Quote
hertsnminds Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I have used Goodyear NCT5's on a previous car and found they were quite good blackcircles.com are quoting them at £84.54 each (fitted). The budget tyres they have start at around £46. I would also get these guys to give you a quotehttp://www.protyrefareham.co.uk/index.html I know they are only based in the South but they may be able to give you a quote that someone else will price match.
