Hi All

I have just bought a Xsara 1.8 VTR, Love the car be i am having a few problems with the following items.

* The red stop light in the middle of the dash board comes on every now and then plus at the same time the warining tone sounds, once the car has been restarted the car runs fine and the problem does not repeat it self...... for at least a couple of days.
*The ABS light has also come on.... does any body know of any normal problems with the system ???

* Finally the Ultrasonic part of the alarm seems to trigger the alarm after a couple of minutes, if they are disabled the problm does not occure??? any suggestions

Many Thanks For any help you may be able to give.

Cheers

The STOP warning light?

Does another light show at the same time? e.g Low oil pressure, high water temperature?

As for the ABS light, get the sensors checked.

As for the alarm, if its a standard fit from Citroen, they should deal with it. Take no bullsh it.

If its an aftermarket fitment then you could be stumped.

Many thanks for your response, The STOP light comes on with the brake fluid level light, just to the left of the STOP light. I have checked the brake fluid level and all seems well, the other thing is that it only happens every now and then. I reckon its just a gremlin!!!!

I will ask Citroen about the Alarm.

Thanks Again

Yep.

Bought the 1.8VTR on Friday. By Sunday I've got the same!

*Red stop Light came on while wife was driving for the first time. And Stop we did! --Panic!. Restarted ok ...it had gone out!

Didn't see what other warning light came on at the same time from my position in the passenger seat... but tomorrow i'll go through and check all the fluid levels (again).

* Alarm triggered 1 minute after the first time we set it. Figured out from the book how to disable it with button on Dash - Which was noticeably more worn than any other button on the Dash. Hmmm!

I Picked up the Car against instinct because it looked "well thought through" and quite 'standard' in layout Quite "Escort like".... none of those "can't find the switch/Handbrake/gear lever type problems I always seem to encounter when I get given a more modern rented citroen on a day rental by my employer.... Oh... except the electric window switches. They are in the middle of the dash - about as far away from any window or any other manufacturers 'normal' places that you can get.

Driven 40 leisurely miles on a full-to-the-brim tank.. Seems to be emptying rather quick, Already approaching the qtr empty mark...

I had a very similar thing. the usual STOP and warning noises, but it didnt really give me the chance to stop somewhere, the engine just cut out completely and rolled to a stop, Restarted the engine and it went fine for a couple of days. turned out that the rear brake cylinder was pissing out brake fluid and thats why it was telling me to stop
