zarkrax Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 What should the RPM be when I change up a gear in an HDI, to get the best fuel economy? Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Depending on your driving style you should achieve 40 to 45 mpg in town & 45 to 50 in rural driving. 50+ mpg should be easily obtainable on a long run. My own Xantia 110 HDi averages about 47mpg in a mixture of driving conditions. Th HDi engine produces its maximum torque at around 1800 rpm, with good urge available from about 1400 revs up. As long as you don't let the revs fall below that when changing up, you should be able to keep up with traffic flows easily. I find it counter productive to go beyond 3,500 when "getting a move on" through the gears as the torque tends to fall away after that. Cheers. Hope this was helpful. Quote
