Many Thanks.

Sounds like a common problem then.

Garage fixed under warranty (car 4 months old) but was traced by elimination of other parts e.g. sensors and last possible cause left. Not happy that the fault was not DEFINITELY confirmed but resulted from "well, it must be the ecu then".

Unit replaced.

Faults of engine surging, occasional sluggish acceleration on motorways, and engine cutting to idling speed then stopping 5 seconds later.

Not helpful while overtaking...

Thanks again.

Not wishing to be accused of hijacking someone elses problem page.My C1 1.4 HDI diesel 56 reg had similar symtons to those described but was according to Citroen technical engine hesitation. The dealer tried to cure it with an engine down load. This failed to cure the problem.Turned out to be new clutch and gear cable required, plus an air box cover!.

Has anyone else had the engine stopped when going along the road by a faulty computer ?

Is this a common problem ?

It is not a known fault the very first C1's used to stop showing the speed on the speedo because the Engine Ecu was being back spiked by the ABS Block though, hubby is a Citroen tech, but unfortunately having a mass produced ECU rogue ones turn up and spoil the enjoyment of owning a vehicle, I hope it gets sorted for you and doesn't spoil the pleasure of owning a C1, I have one and love mine

I had the same thing on my Nissan Almera. Engine cutting out and sluggish random performance. It was a fuel sensor in the exhaust that had failed so I would imagine it should solve the problem. Total pain though as you lose trust in a car after that.

The new unit has been in since June and the only problem now is if the car will take a "certain" hill on the route to work in 5th or 3rd that day, irrespective of weather etc.

Strange, but at least the engine has not cut out again - not fun when 1/2 way past a lorry in the outside lane of a dual carriageway.

To repeat an earlier point, I would have been happier if the dealer had definitively traced the fault to the ECU instead of trying all the sensors and saying "well, it must be the ECU as it's the only thing left".

Not a huge confort if the fault was elsewhere and ready to strike again !

Further to my post 4 entry. The car ended up yet again at Citroen Birmingham. This branch is owned and ran by Citroen UK.Once again fantatsic treatment by a dealership.A futher engine down load was carried out and fingers crossed 24 hours latter all seems fine. The down load clears the memory of the ECU replacing the faulty mapping with the latest one?C1MILLSTONE
