mv331 Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 G'day people, Yes you guessed it I'm in Australia. Sydney to be exact and I am excited to have found this forum  I have a 2001 Xsara that has just had it's 100,000km service and it runs great accept for this noisy rattle on acceleration. It decreases after the engine warms up but still is there if I accelerate heavily. My mechanic told me that it was coming from the front catalytic exhaust manifold and within that there was a piece that crosses the middle of each of 4 exhaust extrusions. This piece in the middle is what is vibrating and it may not be just one but possibly happening with the others as well. It's not a matter of welding it, as I am told the amount of labour involved wont justify in accordance to the price of a direct replacement. To top it off... Due to bullsh*t on the Australian stamp duty taxes and importing freight costs from France blah, blah... I am told AU$540 (about 230 GBP) + labour on top of that. No need to blaspheme here so I wont! Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas to get around this? Cheers. Quote
mv331 Posted July 27, 2007 Author Posted July 27, 2007 Woops! I have relocated this to the 'Problems and Fixes' section. My apologies. Quote
petty Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I had the same situation before as the exhaust manifold failed and pieces were rattling around inside. The tech guy told me that the rear cat might be bad but he's not too sure until the front manifold was removed. Quote
