Recently my Berlingo has developed a rumbling noise which is steadily becoming worse. At first I suspected a worn wheel bearing but, having jacked up each wheel in turn, there is no noise plus they feel tight and there is no heat generated after a run. The noise does not change when turning so it is probably not a wheel bearing nor the outer CV joints.

This then points towards the inner CV joints or transmission. Running the car in gear with one driving wheel off the road produces no noise which can be heard above the diesel motor. Firmly gripping the inner driveshafts produced only a very slight movement of the inner nearside connection so that is where I suspect the problem may lie.

Has anyone had this happen and, if so, how was it sorted?
