avatar12m Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 R reg 1.8 16v desire 2 i noticed my power steering pipe leaking from where it exits the rubber pipe (and turns back into the steel pipe) in the engine bay, i went to a local car dealer who quoted me £90 plus vat , after ringing a few scrap yards i found one on a scrap car, when i took my old one off i realised the pipe that goes into the steering column was bigger diameter with a bigger screw fitting on the end on the one i took off the scrap car. my questions are if anyone can help please 1. was there a design change from big to small / small to big pipe ? or is it some sort of bodge2. why does the pipe go all around the front along the chassis and around the back to the power steering column, when surely you could plumb the pipe in so it goes over the top of the enginge down the back to the sterring column?3. is there some sort of adaptor kit available? Thanks Quote
avatar12m Posted August 22, 2007 Author Posted August 22, 2007 As usual i found out the hard way. 1. there are 2 different pipe sets a) one set has the end that goes into the powersteering column flared like a standard brake pipe fitting  the other is a larger pipe with a straight bulge on the pipe. cost me £89+vat from a citroen dealer plus some lhm fluid. i had to take all my old fittings off and re-use them as i guess it would cost citroen another £89 for the fittings. few tips 1. make sure you have a jack handy and can get it underneath the car before you start work.2. take the front passenger wheel off to aid putting the hose/pipes back on.3. be very carefull while putting it back on as not to bend the thinner metal pipe (be prepared to bend them slightly when ready to put the ends in ) as when they are packaged they are not 100% the correct shape.4. don't overtighten the ends. tools 10 11 12 14 mm spanners/wrenches a car ramp or pit will definately be needed. i did find a company selling a pipe adaptor kit £3 ( a pipe compression fitting so i could join the large pipe to the small one) special pipe services on hedon rd in hull. my xantia is now on the road and i love it !
