Guest rebecca Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 My roof jammed up the other day whilst I was trying to close it - I took it in and the citroen technician managed to get it shut basically with brute force. He hadn't seen anything like it before, but it seems as if the winding gear has gone on one side, so whilst the right side winds forward the left drags behind and then obviously it jams when the roof is too wonky to carry on. I now daren't open it at all as I doubt it will close. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it / how much it might cost? I get the impression that my Citroen dealership aren't quite sure what to do with it, so I wanted to do some research before taking it back in! Quote

All I want is some information of how to repair the roof and not have to fit a complet new one ,£5000, I might as well scrap the car at this cost. Does anybody know how to repair these roofs, none of the dealers do. Quote
marktime Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I can't speak from personal experinence but I recently spoke to a friend whose wife has a Pluriel and she has on occasions had probs with the roof jamming, it is sometimes caused by the roof bars not being installed properly after going for the totaly topless look! Like I say I am no expert but it seems that the difference between the bars being 'in' and and 'really being in' is very small but very important. MarkTime Quote
Guest Paul's Pluriel Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 My 4 year old from new Pluriel has had the roof removed many many times and I have sometimes had the roof stop after climbing back up the screen cassette. I think it helps to have the engine running when you raise the roof as it seems to draw a lot of power. I did once have the roof jam and was able to take it straight round to the dealer who re-greased the bars. About 6 months before my warranty expired the dealer replaced my roof for free as they said the latest models had an improved roof design. There was nothing really wrong with the original, but as I plan to keep the car a long time I couldn't see a downside. Quote
Guest chrisnn Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I agree that the roof operation seems to require a lot of power, but there are other factors. The mechanism can bind, causing an effect like the battery being low. You can easily check if this is the case by measuring between the guide channels, both at the front and back-I bet they are not the same dimension! Further, it is possible for one of the arches to be in a twisted position along its length. This causes binding too but only to the arch affected. Look at the arch/windscreen pillar joint to see if the aligment is accurate. I have one arch-the right hand one-which is actually slightly twisted in itself, rending accurate alignment both at the front and rear impossible. Adjustment to the arch can be made by removing the arch to reveal the black painted plate it sits on, then removing the trim panel below this to access the fixings-just loosen and tap the plate to adjust. Then its a question of trial and error until you get a satisfactory fit/roof movement Quote
